Summary
Bakelite’s Lufkin, TX Chemical Facility is seeking a qualified individual to join its manufacturing team as a Maintenance Technician. This position creates value by ensuring reliability of equipment to help meet and exceed the facility's goals for quality and production by inspecting, troubleshooting, and diagnosing mechanical related problems on all manufacturing equipment in accordance with plant policies and procedures. This is a Monday-Friday day shift position that will include occasional call-outs, evenings, and weekends.
Essential Functions
- Perform maintenance on all plant equipment as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Supply record of maintenance performed to the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Perform fabrication, assembly, and erection of equipment and structures as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Perform routine scheduled inspections of equipment and report any abnormality to the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Perform other duties as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor.
Specific Duties
Safety and Accident Prevention
- Qualified to give on the spot first aid treatment.
- Be on the alert, at all times, for unsafe equipment or conditions.
- Work in a manner as to perform the job safely.
- Wear proper personal protective safety gear at all times and maintain safety gear in good condition.
Maintenance
- Perform preventative and repair maintenance on all plant equipment.
- Familiarize yourself with operating and maintenance manuals for all equipment.
- Perform maintenance in accordance with Bakelite guidelines.
- Perform boiler inspection and maintenance in accordance with Bakelite guidelines, state boiler codes, and insurance carrier requirements.
- Perform construction, installation, and modifications in accordance with engineering and management approved directives.
Housekeeping
- See that all materials, supplies, and equipment are kept in proper places.
- Maintain high standards for housekeeping. Clean up after every job.
Communication
- Coordinate with other departments on situations or actions which will affect their activities.
- Keep your supervisor informed concerning maintenance activities and safety.
- Keep all channels of communication open; up, down, and across (don’t become “isolated”).
Training
- Participate in training courses sponsored by the company.
- Learn and perform the duties of next job up in progression ladder.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must have two years of maintenance manufacturing or power generation mechanical experience.
- Strong technical understanding and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills; able to work well and communicate in a timely manner with staff at all company levels.
- Ability to navigate computer maintenance management systems.
- Demonstrated ability to read standard blueprints, machine, and process drawings (P&ID, PFD, and Isometrics).
- Welding certification (GTAW, GMAW, SMAW) is desired.
