The Manager of Civic Engagement will serve as an expert in leadership development and governmental relations to establish and grow community-led cohorts out of our Gulfton Sharpstown Campus and Pasadena Campus. The Manager will have a pulse on local, statewide, and federal policy trends, and serve as a resource to community-led groups at the centers. The Manager will help develop leaders (known as Community Engineers) who take initiative and are active in their communities, working towards the common good; provide guidance and support to neighbors on advocating for themselves; assist neighbors in building civic connections.
Core Responsibilities:
• Carries out the agency’s Community Engineers Leadership Training Program to equip neighbors with tools to influence change and realize the vision they have for their community. This includes assisting them in advocating for themselves and their community in public forums.
• Establishes and cultivates relationships with community partners and government offices.
• Supports neighbors with interaction and coordination of political requests that align with their vision.
• Supports with local, state, and federal government relationship-development that furthers neighbors’ visions and, as requested, by the Sr. Civic Engagement Manager and BakerRipley leadership.
• Responsible for training, guiding and coordinating civic engagement projects and events with neighborhood residents.
• Responsible for executing proactive engagement techniques to cultivate agency relationships with area civic associations.
• Tracks policy, as well as, the socio-political landscape to anticipate strategic opportunities for the Civic Engagement Team and to assist Community Engineers and neighbors. This includes keeping up with current events.
• Provides policy briefings to the Sr. Civic Engagement Manager and, if requested, to BakerRipley leadership that pertain to projects, plans, and long term goals.
• Responsible for fostering relationships that support and build capacity for center and agency programs and initiatives.
• Uses Appreciative Inquiry to design, develop, and implement civic engagement strategies and programs to increase community participation and, ultimately, engagement with the government. Develops mechanisms to measure and track levels of civic engagement over time.
• Supports BakerRipley’s voter engagement and other civic participation strategies and tactics, along with duties as assigned.
