      Short Description:

      This Access Center Coordinator is responsible for overall coordination of patient scheduling, outreach, and communication activities for the Vascular Access Center. Maintains patient charts, handles physician correspondence, answers telephones, manages patient flow, and supports central billing functions by gathering insurance information, physician referrals, and insurance pre-authorizations.

       

      Essential Duties and Responsibilities

      In this position, you will be responsible for the following duties (among others):

      • Review patient schedules to maximize patient service, including checking for opportunities to add in patients due to cancellation, checking availability to accommodate an emergency patient, pulling patient charts and records, and other tasks as necessary
      • Perform administrative support activities such as correspondence, filing, faxing, mailing, etc.
      • Answer and route incoming telephone calls appropriately
      • Monitor, maintain, and order office supplies and equipment as instructed
      • Serve as liaison between physicians and referring facilities; ensure vascular access procedure results are forwarded to the dialysis facility and referring physician
      • Verify patient insurance eligibility, submit prior authorizations if needed, and obtain referrals when necessary
      • Coordinate dialysis treatments for patients and transportation if needed
      • Forward billing information to appropriate billing contact
      • Maintain patient confidentiality; know and adhere to all HIPPA regulations
      • May be a key holder and required to open the access center on a daily basis
      • Participate in access center community education activities and programs
      • Other duties required to adequately fulfill the duties of your position include
        • Work overtime with little or no notice as needed
        • Attend team meetings, phone conferences, and training as needed
        • Know, understand, and follow company guidelines, policies and procedures policies
        • Know, understand, and comply with all clinical and business policies and procedures
        • Consistent, regular, punctual attendance as scheduled
      • Other duties and tasks as assigned

       

      Required Qualifications

      • High School Diploma or equivalent
      • Minimum 2 years experience in a healthcare office handling insurance verification with Medicare, Medicaid and commercial payors
      • Minimum 1 year experience obtaining pre-authorizations and/or referrals from insurance carriers
      • Understanding of medical terminology
      • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and computer applications
      • Proficiency in electronic medical records system

       

      Preferred Qualifications

      • Experience using EPIC electronic medical record system

      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
      • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
      • Must have ability to work both independently and effectively as part of a team
      • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
      • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

       

      Pay Range:

      $18-$22/hour and up, depending on experience

      • Travel to other sites located within San Diego County may be required

      Physical Demands

      Physical requirements may vary slightly and should be reviewed with your manger. In general, this position requires the ability to lift up to 35 pounds unassisted; ability to stand for extended periods of time and to perform repetitive stooping, walking, stretching, reaching and some sitting; ability to use full range of body motions required to lift patients, wear a lead apron, and lift and move supplies.

       

      Work Environment

      Job required tasks routinely involve a potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, tissues or potential spills or splashes. Use of appropriate personal protection measures is required for every healthcare provider in these positions. Require to routinely use standard office equipment such as laptop, computer, mouse, and photocopier.

      Beginning in 1973, Balboa has grown from two physicians to a comprehensive nephrology team of 52 board certified physicians and 8 advanced practitioners. On January 1, 2018, Balboa Nephrology Medical Group (BNMG) launched Balboa United, a full-service medical practice management services organization. From one small office, BNMG now has 24 clinical offices throughout San Diego, Imperial, Orange and Riverside counties. In addition to office and hospital-based patient care, Balboa physicians manage the dialysis treatments of approximately 4,500 patients at 88 dialysis centers and conduct Nephrology based clinical research at 6 centers throughout Imperial and San Diego counties (California Institute of Renal Research).
