JOB TITLE: Baldwin Promise Authority College Access Center Director and Promise Zone
Coordinator
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
JOB FUNCTION: The primary responsibility of the College Access Center Director and
Promise Zone Coordinator is to establish and implement college readiness activities and a
College Access Center in Baldwin. The activities to be developed and implemented include activities designed to increase students’ academic success and achievement, the development of soft skills (such as study habits and time management), and activities/events that will increase knowledge of the college-going process and overall preparedness for college attendance and success. This is a full-time administrative position for Baldwin Community
Schools supported in total or in part by the Baldwin Promise Authority. The Promise Zone
Coordinator position is a 204 day position.
DISTRICT DESCRIPTION: Baldwin Community Schools is a small school district in Lake
County, serving approximately 500 students. The district features a diverse population and provides many supports for students, including reduced class sizes, student support specialists, and social and emotional support services. The school district offers a competitive salary schedule, several benefit plan options, and a retirement plan. Baldwin Community
Schools plans to return to a traditional school calendar for the 2022-2023 school year, with students returning the week prior to Labor Day. The vision of Baldwin Community Schools is,

DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS:
College Readiness Activity Development
- Make provisions for ACT/MME/PLAN/PSAT/Explore prep, summer jobs, internships/job shadowing, scholarship searches, interview preparation.
- Design and implement activities designed to overcome the obstacles which have prevented enrollment or success in college by Baldwin graduates.
- Seek input from and communicate effectively with K-12 staff regarding college success and readiness (survey’s, direct contact, meetings, etc.).
- Seek input from and communicate effectively with parents/ grandparents/ community
(survey’s, direct contact, meetings, etc.).
- Assist in the development and support of a college-going culture within Baldwin schools and the community.
- Organize experiential activities such as college visits, college fairs, college representatives’ visits, in-school presentations by speakers, community members and alumni, and career exploration.
- Work with existing mentoring programs and expand them wherever possible for 3rd grade through college (as it pertains to college going culture).
- Examine and recommend policies, procedures, and/or curricular issues that may unintentionally create obstacles for students.
- Develop and establish an alumni program.
- Coordinate college/career related events such as Promise Scholarship, FAFSA, and
Parent/College Information nights; KnowHow2Go, GEAR UP, and in classroom scholarship/college presentations.
College Access Center Development and Operation
- Furnish information on national opportunities (military service academies, etc.).
- Provide advice and information regarding career and college choices.
- Help with navigation of online resources for career, college and scholarship searches, docufide training and MICAP enrollment.
- Design, organize, recommend furnishings and provide access to the College Access
Center in Baldwin High School.
- Seek out and participate in initial and ongoing training and information about colleges, technical schools, apprenticeships, military academies, careers, course and graduation requirements, admissions process, financial aid process, resources (college guides,

college access portal, “how-to” guides, questionnaires, websites, alumni) and middle dollar grant process.
- Work closely with high school counselor and principal to maximize effectiveness of college and career information for students.
- Provide direct assistance to students, parents, and community members in the college application, financial aid application, and standardized test registration process.
Baldwin Promise Authority Administration
- Attend BPA meetings and give written monthly reports to the Board on readiness activities.
- Conduct surveys and interviews with BHS graduates to determine readiness for college and obstacles to college success.
- Track all Baldwin graduates to determine eligibility for and successful use of Baldwin
Promise
- Oversee development and up-keep/updates for BPA logo, business cards, brochure, stationary, print and electronic media communications, web-site development.
- Track cost of services related to grant (or arrange to have this done).
- At least yearly review and evaluate goals and goal setting process.
- Initiate and monitor on-going data collection, program needs/development, analyze new possibilities by considering advantages and disadvantages within the context of goals of
BPA.
- Work with BPA treasurer and members, the Superintendent, and the school business manager to track, manage and report financial status of the Baldwin Promise program to the BPA
- Work with students, financial aid officers, and BPA Board to determine accurate Baldwin
Promise Awards and work with BPA treasurer to ensure prompt and accurate payment to colleges.
- Establish and maintain accurate and updated data base on all Baldwin Promise eligible students. Seek and process applications for continuation and ensure that students meet criteria for continuation.
- After the first year, help develop a 3-5 year strategic plan.
