Job Title: Groundman
Department: Operations
Location: Summerdale, AL
Description of Responsibilities:
- Participate in routine line construction projects and learn to operate equipment away from energized line and practice climbing on bare or non-energized lines.
- Prepare trucks, load materials, perform daily maintenance checks and fuel trucks.
- Provide back-up to apprentice linemen, lift materials, retrieve tools and hardware for line crew effectively and efficiently.
- Frame and set poles.
- Terminate non-energized underground wire.
- Assemble non-energized material prior to installation and set meters.
Must be able to distinguish the difference between energized and non-energized materials and lines.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- seven months to one year’s prior experinnce.
- Need to be able to communicate with members and general public effectively concerning outages.
- Must possess or complete required training for first aid and CPR certifications.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a Class A CDL license.
- Need to be able to lift and move heavy equipment.
- Should be able to operate motorized equipment such as forklift, digger truck, bucket and line locator.
- Need to be able to use various hand tools.
- Must be able to complete various daily reports such as truck reports, time sheet and material data reports.
Must comply with the Response Time Operating procedure within one year of date of position.
Working Conditions:
- Duties are performed outdoors in varying weather Overtime may be required. Must maintain readiness status 24 hours a day during storms and emergencies.
