BAMSI is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization founded in Brockton, Massachusetts, with a vision of driving change and creating equal opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities and mental and behavioral health challenges.  Brockton Area Multi-Services, Inc. (BAMSI) was incorporated on March 21, 1975 as South Shore Multi-Services Inc., under Chapter 180 of the Massachusetts General Laws, as a not-for-profit human service organization. On July 9, 1975, it changed its name to Brockton Area Multi-Services, Inc. It was formed for the development, coordination, and delivery of integrated human service programs, and according to its website, its mission is “to empower people and enrich their lives, through compassionate support and diverse services, one individual, one family a time.” BAMSI employees up to 2,000 people and operates adult, child, and family services, assisting approximately 30,000 individuals each year in Worcester, Middlesex, Norfolk, Bristol, and Plymouth Counties.

Responsibilities

General Statement of Duties: To work in coordination with the program manager in overseeing all day to day operations as well as provide direct care service to individuals living in a supervised residential setting and to do so in a manner that promotes growth, independence and dignity to those served.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assume a leadership role in the ongoing operation of the program including staff scheduling and formal staff supervision, as assigned, and complete administrative documentation.
  • Teach socialization skills and activities of daily living including: household maintenance, self care and hygiene; self awareness and human development; menu planning; food shopping and preparation; money management skills/budgeting; transportation and community orientation, consumer skills; and utilization of community resources.
  • Coordinate the implementation of Individual Service Plans (ISP) to meet person served behavioral and treatment objectives.
  • Record necessary data, write daily progress notes and complete all other ISP and program required documentation.
  • Transport persons served to and from day programs, medical appointments and other activities as required.
  • Coordinate with program manager to ensure the quality of care is maintained within the program.
  • Ensure consumer safety and assist the program manager in monitoring consumers’ medical, legal and financial concerns.
  • Supervise and document person served self-administration of medication as prescribed by a physician and in accordance with agency and program procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge of and coordinate with the program manager as to ongoing program issues and developments and action steps to be implemented.
  • As requested by the program manager, or in the absence of the program manager, will assume the following: • Daily management of residence consistent with existing program standards and philosophy, including management of petty cash and person served funds. • Coordinate the implementation and documentation of group and individual activities which serve to integrate the lives of person served with members of the community. • Ensure staff familiarity and follow through with all components of the ISP. • Ensure staff adherence to program and agency policies and procedures.
  • Assume the role of Human Rights Officer, Safety Officer, and/or Financial Officer as assigned by the program manager.
  • Execute duties to reflect reasonable safety standards. Universal/standard precautions must be utilized and training obtained in areas that constitute risk.
  • Perform duties in a manner that adheres to agency policies and procedures.
  • Perform other work related duties as needed or as assigned by supervisor or designee.
  • Qualifications

    • High School Diploma or equivalent plus a minimum of two years of work experience with DD/BI/MH population required.
    • Ability to record data using a computer, enter time worked into an electronic system and receive and send email required.
    • A valid driver's license in state of residence; at least two years’ driving experience and satisfactory driving record.
    • Ability to comprehend materials related to medication administration, ISP’s, PBS and ADL programs.
    • Ability to speak and write English clearly and accurately in order to keep documentation up to date and understandable.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with persons served, families, service providers and funding source personnel.
    • Ability to lift, transfer, push/pull, maneuver, and reposition 25 pounds on a regular basis and occasionally up to 50/60 pounds depending upon program.
    • Ability to reach, bend, stand, sit and walk; perform fine motor activities.
    • Work effectively in a moderate to occasionally loud work environment.
