Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences seeks a professional bus driver to join our transportation team for the 2024-25 school year.
Description: Bus Driver, Part-time, 10 months, Non-Exempt (hourly)
Pay rate: $20 -$25 per hour (with modified part-time benefits)
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Drives children safely to and from regular routes and school sponsored trips
- Follows route description as it is written
- Submits required forms by due date
- Assists in daily maintenance of bus ensuring it is kept clean, in good mechanical condition, and that regular preventative maintenance is performed
- Attends all in-service training meeting as required
- Conducts annual bus evacuation drills
- Participates in random drug testing
- Completes on-line risk management training required annually
- Maintains an up-to-date CPR certification by participating in school sponsored annual training on campus
- Utilizes and maintains school email account for communication purposes
Education: Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or GED equivalent
Experience: 5 years of continuous driving experience while holding a valid driver’s license; the ability to read, write, and speak English; meet all Motor vehicle licensing requirements for a CDL (commercial driver’s license) with a passenger endorsement; receive a negative controlled substance test; satisfactorily pass the appropriate annual medical examinations for school drivers; maintain a driving record in accordance with COMAR (code of Maryland regulations); and possess a satisfactory past driving record and currently have no more than two points.
Skills and Characteristics: Enthusiasm and patience working with children; quick to respond to issues; good route management; and the ability to develop positive partnerships with parents, faculty, and staff.

Physical Requirements: Frequently required to sit; use foot controls to drive; reach with hands and arms; climb, bend, stoop, kneel, talk, and hear; the ability to communicate clearly using a two-way radio or cell phone during emergencies while bus may be in motion; pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds; the ability to use emergency exits at any location on the bus. Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision; night/dusk vision, and color and peripheral vision. As part of daily routines mobility around a campus with uneven pavement and managing stairs are required.
