Job Description: Summary: Barr is seeking an engineering student to work on project teams involved with civil engineering, hydraulic and hydrologic design and analysis, and related technical activities. Typical project assignments may include basic engineering computations (e.g., area, volume, discharge rate) and technical analysis including spreadsheet and GIS-based data analysis; design of structures; hydraulic and/or hydrologic model input data collection and preparation; technical writing; field data collection; mapping; and site surveys and construction observation. This position requires presence, with some flexibility, in a Barr office Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Minimum Qualifications: Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil or environmental engineering or related engineering field GPA of 3.2 minimum; 3.5 or higher is preferred Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients Completed or enrolled in chemistry, physics, fluid mechanics, and mathematics coursework Completed or enrolled in relevant engineering courses such as engineering hydrology, applied hydrology, water resource engineering, open channel hydraulics, etc. At least one full-time semester of undergraduate or graduate course work remaining after internship is complete A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs Detail-oriented, thorough, and organized approach Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record NOTE: Applicant must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites. Work may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required.
