Job Summary:
The Respiratory Therapist II independently coordinates the care of patients with physicians, nurses, families, and other caregivers. The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for assessing, recommending, and following a pathway of therapy which may include invasive and non-invasive procedures. Obtaining and documenting diagnostic data are also required. The Respiratory Therapist supports and educates patient families/caregivers who must deal with acute and chronic respiratory conditions, and the psychosocial aspects of the condition.
What You Will Do:
Coordinates the care of patients with physicians, nurses, family, and other caregivers. Assesses, recommends and follows a pathway of therapy which may include invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation, airway management, intubation assist, high and low flow humidification, medication administration, oxygen therapy, incentive spirometry, PEP therapy, coughing and breathing exercises, chest physical therapy, cardio/pulmonary rehabilitation and patient education including smoking cessation.
Obtains and documents diagnostic data such as arterial blood gasses and co-oximetry, pulmonary function, cardiac stress testing, cardiac event monitoring, pulse oximetry and desaturation studies, and ECG’s.
Supports and educates patient families/caregivers who must deal with acute and chronic respiratory conditions and the psychosocial aspects of the condition.
Participates in hospital committees and teams as appropriate
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications for the Job:
Internal Hires: Pay rate will be determined based on applicable personnel rule or union contract terms.
