Responsibilities

The Network Manager, Transfusion Tissue Service will work Full Time, Days and will gather from internal and external sources appropriate data to measure unit performance in Transfusion/Tissue Services and ELC/NLC, and to provide information on Laboratory trends to support the corporations planning requirements.

  • The Network Manager will develop objectives, strategies, and tactics for the management of the Transfusion Services, ELC/NLC laboratory coverage of the corporation.
  • The Network Manager will develop and maintain a unit management structure, operating procedures and staffing to meet Laboratory needs of the corporation.
  • Provide direction which ensures appropriate distribution of Bassett's Transfusion/Tissue Services and ELC/NLC resources enabling key services to be maintained and objectives to be achieved.
  • Staff appropriate intra and interdepartmental committees related to the effective accomplishment of Bassett's objectives.
  • The Network Manager will monitor accomplishment of agreed upon objectives at the unit level, to monitor compliance objectives at the unit level; and where appropriate, to institute corrective actions including reallocating resources, reprioritizing and/or recommending modifications to established plans.
  • Monitor performance against annually unit operating plans, to institute corrective action where appropriate, and to recommend variance from budget where appropriate.
  • Ensure that appropriate performance improvement monitors are in place for the department which are sensitive to patient, physician, staff or other customer needs and which ensure the effective day-to-day operations of the department as well as to establish and monitor operating performance standards for areas of responsibility within the laboratory.
  • Conduct self in a manner to achieve results in ways consistent with organizational values and to provide a constructive example for others to do likewise.
  • Establish timely and effective communications with department staff to keep them aware of important Network, corporate, divisional and departmental information and to receive information and insights from them.
  • The Network Manager will evaluate, develop and maintain unit performance improvement standards and to participate as directed in the Bassett Performance Improvement Program and the American Association of Blood Banks Quality Plan.
  • Review and approve unit policies, procedures, plans and activities, ensuring that they are within acceptable standards for the corporation.
  • Identify and correct systems/procedural problems which interfere with customer satisfaction or to recommend action be taken when outside of own authority.
  • The Network Manager will develop programs, policies or services which will increase satisfaction of key customers/groups served (patients, physicians, staff and other departments within Bassett Healthcare).
  • Ensure that all employees in the unit know what is to be accomplished in their jobs, what authority they have to accomplish their jobs, whether the results of their performance are satisfactory, and what they can do to improve performance.
  • The Network Manager will develop laboratory program management, financial management systems and expense control systems to ensure maximum market penetration and to improve profitability of Bassett Healthcare laboratory services.

Qualifications

Bassett Healthcare Network follows the New York State and New York State Department of Health COVID-19 vaccine mandates for healthcare workers. This mandate requires COVID-19 vaccinations for personnel working for or on behalf of our hospitals and nursing homes.  The New York State mandate allows for medical exemptions and religious accommodations, when appropriate. All candidates who accept an offer from Bassett Healthcare Network will be required to show proof of vaccination as required by New York State.

 

Education/Qualifications:

  • Prerequisites include a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology (Clinical Lab Science) from an accredited program, or professional training programs offered through either the military service of the United States or the military service of the state, which may, where applicable, be accepted by the NYS Education Department for licensing purposes as equivalent education and training in lieu of all or part of an approved program.
  • Varied Laboratory experience in Blood Bank required.

Experience:

  • At least six years of laboratory experience is required (NYSDOH supervisor qualified).
  • Three years of supervisory or managerial experience is preferred.

Licensure/Certificates:

  • Licensure by NYS SED as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist is required.
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist/clinical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP/NCA) preferred.

Scope of Practice:

  • Individuals are required to practice within the responsibilities of their license, and perform specific tasks for which they have been deemed competent.

Skills:

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational time management and project management skills with motivation to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Strong facilitation skills, team building and mentoring skills and be able to work with minimal direct supervision.
  • Working knowledge of NYSDOH Laboratory regulations, The Joint Commission standards, and CLIA standards.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with all levels of staff and providers.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Experience with cost benefit analysis and knowledge of inventory control.
  • Proficiency in Windows-based applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Budgeting staff and resources.
