Job Summary:
The Seasoanl Park Technician is responsible for general maintenance duties required for proper upkeep of District owned facilities, turf, landscape material, turf areas and park open spaces.
General landscape, maintenance and horticulture duties within parks and open space throughout the year. This includes but is not limited to watering, mulching, mowing, weeding, trimming plants, and leaf and tree removal.
Assist Trades Technician with carpentry and construction duties including but not limited to roofing, wall and floor tile, cabinets, windows, partitions, framing, drywall, sign making, emergency board-up and all tasks necessary for preparation and completion of the work.
Perform general painting duties including but not limited to patching staining and perform all tasks necessary for preparation and completion of the work.
Operate park district vehicles and motorized equipment; within weight and license restriction requirements perform pre-trip inspection of vehicles and equipment.
Remove all garbage and trash from parks and playgrounds.
Assist with site improvement and special projects such as fencing, borders, and playground construction.
Prepare ball fields as needed, paint athletic lines.
Assist with special event set up and take downs including but not limited to banner hanging, fencing, lighting, sound systems, transporting equipment, table and chair set up/take down and trash collection.
Perform general maintenance of district vehicles and equipment.
Perform all jobs and tasks within guidelines and rules of District’s safety program.
Operation of small power tools cordless drills, saws, sanders.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
This position requires the ability to follow instructions. Experience in landscape maintenance or related field is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of equipment, material and supplies used in grounds & facility maintenance.
Ability to operate hand and self-propelled power equipment.
Must have and maintain a valid Illinois Driver’s License ( A drivers abstract is required as this position requires operating District Vehicles and equipment).
Ability to follow directions and complete project with minimal supervision.
Ability to communicate with public and patrons.
Ability to utilize District electronic tools/software, including but not limited to: network computers, District email/calendar, ADP system and cell phones.
Adhere to the District's Core Values and demonstrate reliability, teamwork, and professionalism at all times.
Must have reliable transportation to work and adhere to the time and attendance policy.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
Requires full range of body motion including handling, lifting, and manual and finger dexterity.
Requires frequent standing, bending and stooping for prolonged periods.
The employee must regularly lift up to 50 pounds.
Performs many duties outdoors - Exposure to weather conditions which can include cold, snow, ice, rain and extreme heat and humidity.
There is exposure to grinding material and dust, various chemicals (i.e. fertilizers, weed killers, cleaning agents and oil/fuels).
There is exposure to loud noise for extended periods.
Infrequently performs duties from ladders, 3ft to 25ft.
Starting Hourly Rate: $12.00 (seasonal positions are not benefit eligible).
Required
Applicants must be 16 years of age
Work - Monday - Friday 7:00am-3:30pm
This position requires a valid Illinois Driver's license as you will be operating work vehicles and equipment.
Must complete a successful reference and background check; including a drug test, physical/lift test and drivers abstract.
