Essential Functions
Classroom Preparation: Manage the classroom and materials using the NAEYC Principles of Child Development, ECEAP program standards and meet DCYF WAC.
Curriculum: Planning must be entered into Teaching Strategies Gold; and observations of children's development documented weekly.
Cultural Competence: Foster a sense of belonging and support a family's home culture. Incorporate the NAEYC Anti-Discrimination principles as a guideline for respectful behavior.
Guidance: Interacts positively with all children to support emotional needs; ready and willing to intercede quickly to keep children safe and model appropriate interactions.
Direct and monitor the work of teacher assistants, practicum and volunteers; evaluate practicum and interns.
Families: Maintain relationships with parents/guardians that are strengths-based. Communicate about child's stages of growth and development.? Be flexible to meet with parents in a home visit or conference that meets the parent's needs.
Family-Style Meal Service: Serves meals and snacks to meet the USDA guidelines; complete meal attendance at the point of service.
Recordkeeping: Monitor classroom attendance, bus sign in and out records, electronic attendance and ensure parent sign in and out. Call parent when a child is absent, and you have not been notified. Follow through on active supervision plans.
Outdoor experiences: Plan large motor activities that promote deep breathing, balance and strength, enjoying nature and changes in seasons.
Non-Essential/Other Functions
Accountable for keeping personal development up to date; adding to skills and knowledge through courses that may be available through the Bates Technical College courses, professional development committees, etc.
Participate actively and collaboratively on committees for college as needed including but not limited to staff recruitment, college councils, etc.
Additional activities, duties and responsibilities may change at any time with or without notice to meet college needs.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Conditions of Employment
Complete a Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) within Managed Education and Registry Information Tool (MERIT) account.
Maintain a Washington Early Learning Managed Education and Registry Information Tool (MERIT) account, containing current educational qualifications.
Complete 20 hours of State Training and Registry System (STARS) education hours.
Provide immunization record that you have received the MMR vaccine.
Have negative results of TB test/or a recent negative chest x-ray and statement from health provider.
Must have a current Portable Background Check in MERIT (WAC 170-06).
Maintain food handler card.
Maintain first aid/CPR.
Attend Limited Restraint training within the first year of employment.
Complete annual required trainings
This position is required to work on campus and/or childcare locations.
Once offer of employment is made, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not preclude employment but will be contingent in determining the employee's suitability and competence to continue to perform in the position.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree or higher in Early Childhood Education; OR
Other associate or bachelor's degree with 30 quarter credits in Early Childhood Education; AND
30 hour/3 credit "Childcare Basics" Washington State STARS training; AND
Three (3) years of classroom experience with young children, birth to five-years-old
Allowable Substitution
If necessary, alternative combinations of education and experience may be evaluated by Human Resources for comparability.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher in Early Childhood Education
Three years childcare and ECEAP experience
Lead teacher experience.
