We are currently seeking a Business Development Director to support our CBRNE Business Line. This position located in Washington, DC (Crystal City, VA).

JOB SUMMARY

Battelle’s National Security Division is performing exciting work for federal clients that includes research in Intelligence and Business Sensitive markets.  As a Business Development manager you will champion acquisitions related to Research, Development, Testing and Evaluation (RDT&E) funded programs. A core competency in Intelligence including cyber related advanced research and technologies combined with a proven track record of client engagement and pipeline development around science and technology programs is desired.The candidate should have experience identifying market targets, experience with the federal budget process, call plan development, account planning, opportunity assessment and qualification, and aligning internal investment to customer markets. Ideal candidates will have a functional knowledge of all Military Services, to include Special Operations and R&D components.  The candidate must demonstrate successful performance leading business development, capture, and proposal teams to win large DoD/IC/FEDCIV opportunities, while developing an enabling pipeline designed for aggressive growth.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Developing and growing an established and extensive opportunity portfolio with both existing and potential Battelle clients.
  • Developing and maintaining client relationships including Intelligence, Cyber, and R&D organizations to grow current and future business, and cultivate relationships with partners – small and large businesses and academia.
  • Shaping, identifying, capturing, and managing strategic opportunities that support business strategies.
  • Leading sales/business development with responsibility for $100M in annual sales.
  • Identifying and shaping opportunities where client needs can be satisfied by internal research and development investments, thereby allowing Battelle to deliver differentiated capabilities or offerings.
  • Providing market and competitor intelligence on market segments where the business unit is engaged, as well as insights on competition specific to individual opportunities.
  • Supporting and/or leading capture teams to establish overall proposal strategies and themes which clearly differentiate Battelle from other potential providers of service.
  • Building and maintaining a robust pipeline of leads and opportunities capable of meeting or exceeding established business unit order goals.
  • Up to 50% travel required.

THE FOLLOWING IS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science-related technical field and at least 10 years of experience in DoD organizations, federal civil or defense business development or government contracting.   A Master’s degree in a relevant field is preferred.
  • Existing network of clients and collaborators in the DoD, Intelligence and FED/CIV community, R&D offices, and/or Service Research Elements and Labs and the ability to leverage these into qualified business opportunities.
  • Experience and knowledge of DoD/IC/FEDCIV acquisition procedures and timelines.
  • Proven track record winning opportunities with Federal clients.
  • Competitor knowledge in assigned market space and experience in competitive assessment
  • Experience in developing large government proposals.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver technical presentations to internal and external customers.
  • Proven track record supporting business development for an organization with over $100M in annual sales
  • Active or eligible TS/SCI clearance
  • Must be US Citizen
