R&D Specialist III (Regulatory Science)
Regulatory Science delivers and supports the rigorous safety studies that Bayer provides to global regulatory agencies to ensure freedom to operate and deploy innovative biotech products worldwide to help growers produce more with less inputs. The Genetic Compositional Analytics team has a fundamental role in these safety studies as it generates genetic characterization of the materials used in those studies.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, R&D Specialist III (Regulatory Science), are:
- Under the direction of Lab Operations Manager and/or Lab Coordinator completes the testing processes ensuring process control, accurate data management, timely escalation of problem solving, and error correction;
- Ability to learn and apply scientific methods and non-routine techniques for analysis as directed by protocols and work instructions to deliver quality results, which may include preparation of reagents, media, controls and sample preparation;
- Works independently within a team environment to ensure all testing is conducted in compliance with Bayer's Sustainability, Safety, Health & Environment (SSHE) policies, Laboratory Quality Management System (QMS) and protocols, and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) Regulatory agency requirements;
- Operates and troubleshoots instrumentation and solves routine problems requiring original thinking and deductive reasoning of diverse procedures within specialized laboratory technology;
- Participates in a continuous improvement program focused on enhancing current processes, performing root-cause analyses, and troubleshooting of issues;
- Validates methods using multiple data sources.

Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree;
- One or more years of experience in a lab setting (in industry or academia);
- Excellent communication and networking skills;
- Experience with DNA extraction, isolation methods, and TaqMan PCR chemistry.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with DNA extraction and isolation methods from plant materials;
- Proven project organizational abilities in a cross-functional environment;
- Track record of effective troubleshooting and problem-solving within the lab environment;
- Experience using and maintaining automated liquid handling system(s) or other lab automation;
- Proficiency with data analysis and visualization software;
- Experience with use of digital tools for data documentation and project tracking (LIMS, Electronic Laboratory Notebook or similar systems);
- Prior work experience in global regulatory requirements for sample quality, GLP, ISO 9001, and/or QMS.
