Scientist II: New Dye Development
BD Biosciences is seeking a highly motivated Scientist II to join our research and product development team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the evaluation of new fluorochromes (dyes) and development of new reagents for use in flow cytometry. This includes evaluating early dye candidates (in collaboration with our chemistry teams) and once identified taking the final dye candidates through our product development process. The candidate will gain experience evaluating dyes using single and multicolor flow cytometry (both conventional and spectral) on a range of model systems. Expected to set up and execute experiments independently the successful candidate will be skilled at data analysis and trouble shooting and will be accountable for preparing and presenting data to management.
Responsibilities include:
Design and perform single and multi-color flow cytometry experiments
Independently analyze own research data, solve problems with minimal guidance and effectively plan follow up experiments
An effective communicator both within the team environment and with members from other teams
Actively participate in group discussions
Contributes to the completion of milestones associated with specific projects, where failure to achieve results may cause delays in program schedules
Support R&D and marketing for product development and launch requirements
Promotes a safe work environment. Offers recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment. Participates in addressing corrective actions whenever a hazard is identified. Notifies supervisor of all observed unsafe work practices.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Requires experience designing, performing, and analyzing flow cytometry experiments, preferably on BD flow cytometers
Understanding of immunology preferred
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated analytical problem solving
Self-starter with a strong work ethic
Developed organizational, time management, and planning skills to efficiently manage multiple projects
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Requires a BS or MS in biology (or a related life science discipline) with a minimum of 2-4 years industry experience
Minimum of 2 years of experience operating a flow cytometer
