The Surgery Scheduler who will schedule patients for surgery in inpatient and outpatient settings in a high-paced medical clinic. Coordinates and schedules appointments for preoperative and postoperative office visits and testing.
In This Position You Will
Service Commitment: Maintain confidentiality of all information related to patients, medical staff, employees, and as appropriate, other information.- Team Member: Demonstrate service excellence and positive interpersonal relations in dealing with others, including patients/family members, employees, managers, and medical staff, so that productivity and positive relations are maximized.
- Confidentiality/Privacy: Protect confidential/private information related to patients, caregivers, providers and others.
- Attendance and Punctuality: Demonstrate performance by adhering to established policies and procedure and exhibiting the defined characteristics associated with attendance and punctuality.
- Coordinate and schedule surgeries, preoperative and postoperative appointments as designated by surgeons.
- Coordinate processes and timing as required to meet provider and facility requirements.
- Coordinate arrangements for surgical assistants, special equipment and surgical materials.
- Provide patients with generic preoperative information sheets and advise patients of preoperative surgical and financial requirements.
- Submit patient clinical and financial information to facility assuring appropriate medical records release, if needed.
- Obtain accurate information from patients and ensure all registration forms are complete.
- Collect patient pre-payment, as directed.
- Maintain files and patient records in a confidential manner.
- Attain authorizations for surgery across multiple types of payors
- Demonstrate courtesy and helpfulness toward patients and their families; assures that information given to patients is accurate and complete.
- Ensures efficient written and oral communication.

Required qualifications for this position include:
- 2-3 years of healthcare experience
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to effectively interact with public and co-workers.
- Working knowledge of medical insurance HMO/PPO/EPO/Indemnity/Worker’s Comp, etc.
- Knowledge of medical terminology required.
- Working knowledge of computerized registration and scheduling
- Good written and verbal skills.
- Knowledge of clinic policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance practices.
- Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding.
- Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type, review and edit reports, documentation and correspondence.
- Knowledge of basic arithmetic to make calculations, balance and reconcile figures, and make changes accurately.
- Skill in handling paperwork/filing adequately.
- Skill in handling incoming phone calls and triaging appropriately.
- Skill in written and verbal communication.
- Skill in gathering, interpreting and reporting insurance information.
- Skill in troubleshooting insurance issues and resolving appropriately.
- Ability to type 40-50 words per minute. Ability to learn and use electronic medical record software and computers programs including Microsoft Office products, email, and Internet.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member with physicians and other caregivers.
- Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems.
- Ability to interpret and understand insurance benefits and reimbursement.
- Ability to flexibly respond to changing demands.

Compensation for the role will depend on several factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience.

Salary : $37,500 - $47,500
