William Beaumont University Hospital is actively seeking an experienced Pharmacy Manager on the day shift to oversee the support staff for our inpatient pharmacy operations.  In this role you will lead a diverse team of pharmacy technicians, leads and supervisors and have opportunities to learn and grow along with access to the latest technology including automated dispensing equipment.  The successful candidate will have recent inpatient pharmacy experience leading teams.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Participates in the development and maintenance of programs, policies/procedures, and goals/objectives encompassing pharmaceutical activities for Beaumont Health. Promotes team efforts to manage and achieve departmental/corporate objectives. Ensures that all staff meet/exceed minimum competency standards and encourage/support staff to continue professional development. Demonstrates good judgment and decisiveness throughout daily activities. Maintains knowledge of current Pharmaceutical practice, compliance and demonstrates a personal commitment to professional growth. Supports administration by providing supervision, guidance and support for all assigned areas. Participates in the planning, organization and implementation of new programs and activities. Participates in strategies to increase market share, reduce cost and improve customer satisfaction.

 STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Education / Training:
  • Pharm.D. or bachelor’s degree in pharmacy (residency training preferred).
  1. Work Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years pharmacy experience (or equivalent) OR Administrative Pharmacy Residency required.
  • Residency training and/or advanced degree (MBA, MS, MPH) preferred.
  • Management experience and/or leadership training preferred.
  1. Certification, Licensure, Registration:
  • Unrestricted Pharmacist and Controlled Substance License in good standing with the State of Michigan (or eligible to obtain such licensure).
  • Immunization Certification (i.e. APhA) and BLS CPR Certification required for Outpatient Pharmacist or obtain within a mutually agreed upon time period no later than 6 months after hire date.
  1. Other Qualifications:
  • Pharmacist skills related to systems to provide pharmacy services and clinical skills related to providing drug therapy on an individual patient basis.
  • Management skills in the areas of personnel planning and evaluating.
  • Excellent communication skills - verbal and written.
  • Personal time management skills.
  • Working knowledge of departmental computers systems.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Individual must have demonstrated skills of leadership and strategic planning.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State pharmacy and healthcare regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:           

  1. Oversight, direction, and monitoring of departmental pharmacy programs (clinical, operational, financial, and/or supply chain).
  2. Maintains regulatory compliance related to medication management and pharmacy practice.
  3. Reviews, creates, and/or enforces policies related to medication management and pharmacy practice.
  4. Coordinates or participates in quality initiatives related to medication management and department process improvement.
  5. Oversees medication cost containment programs and budgetary impact of medication use.
  6. Oversight and direction for emergency preparedness activities related to medications.
  7. Participates in the hiring of departmental employees and the budgeting process.
  8. Completes and participates in the employee performance reviews, corrective action, and employee opinion surveys.
  9. Supports medication safety efforts of the organization by identifying, tracking and resolving medication errors. Helps develop and implement improved procedures to minimize and/or prevent medication errors.
  10. Assigns projects to others with initial guidance and reviews work progress.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Physical Effort:
  • Work requires extended walking throughout the Hospital, with medium to heavy lifting of up to 50 pounds and pulling/pushing carts loaded with medications.
  1. Work Environment:
  • Work is performed in a normal Pharmacy environment with minimal noise.  Exposed to patient care areas when delivering medication carts. Potential risk of an exposure to hazardous medications or waste materials of hazardous medications.
