About The Job

The Foreman/Operator is a construction worker with experience in a particular trade who is charged with managing the overall construction of a particular project and/or crew. It is the responsibility of the foreman to lead his/her construction crew on the job site on a daily basis to keep the construction project on task and schedule each day.

Responsibilities

In the performance of this function, it is also the foreman’s responsibility to protect and promote BECK CONSTRUCTION & EXCAVATION’s interests in all matters and do whatever is reasonably necessary to execute his/her duties and responsibilities which include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • The foreman is the lead equipment operator of his/her given crew.
  • The foreman is responsible for and expected to maintain, their equipment and provide general maintenance as needed on their equipment, for safe operations on the construction job-sites. This maintenance may include, but is not limited to, the following:
    • Checking the filters daily.
    • Changing the oil and general greasing of the equipment.
    • Keeping the interior and exterior of the equipment clean of trash, debris, and mud.
    • Completing repair orders for any maintenance done to and/or parts purchased for the machinery.
  • The foremen determine the priorities for work to be done, sometimes based on their own initiative, but most often based on the needs communicated by the Superintendent, Project Manager, Engineer, and Project Owner. They must determine whether they have the number of employees possessing the required skills for the job, verify that the needed items are on-site and available for use, and then direct employees on which tasks are to be completed first.
  • The foreman is responsible for providing proper documentation, knowledge, and tools to his workers so they can proceed with tasks. If problems arise, the foreman may alter the schedule to minimize downtime or to assist in making a project more efficiently.
  • The foreman will train employees under his or her supervision and ensure the appropriate use of equipment by employees.
  • The foreman will communicate progress on the project to the superintendent and project manager.
  • The foreman will communicate with their crew effectively and with respect.
  • The foreman will provide leadership and establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with the crew and will promote positive project morale.
  • The foreman is expected to ensure that workers obey all safety regulations, whether they are statutory or specific to the employer. Foremen are also responsible for communicating safety procedures to employees or offering safety training to new workers.
  • The foreman will evaluate plans for each construction job they are working on, and ensure the projects are being built to the required plans and specifications.
  • The foreman is responsible for maintaining the SWPPP and SWPPP Log requirements for each project that they are on.
Minimum Skills(Qualifications) Required

  • Read and interpret Civil blueprints and have an understanding of the project at hand.
  • Skilled heavy equipment operator with the ability to operate many different sizes and kinds of equipment.
  • Read survey stakes and set grades.
  • Calculate Quantities needed for a project. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Calculating Aggregate Quantities and Export Quantities.
    • Calculating Pipe Lengths.
    • Calculating Concrete.
    • Required Materials and Parts.
Certificates and Licenses (Must be obtained within a reasonable time period):

  • 10 Hour OSHA Training.
  • ATSSA – Traffic Control Technician (TCT).
  • Competent Person and Trench Safety Certification.
  • SWPPP Project Management (On-Site Training).

Salary : $55,000 - $85,000
