What are the responsibilities and job description for the 2024 Freshman Diversity Program position at Belk?
We’re committed to students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) and/or diverse student organizations on campus having successful careers in the retail industry. The Freshman Diversity Program is a two-day learning experience designed to give talented and ambitious college freshman exposure to Belk, Big Box Retail and the Fashion Industry. You’ll gain exposure to different roles within the retail industry. This opportunity will allow you to see how Belk operates as a company. You’ll engage with senior leaders, take part in professional seminars, and shadow professionals in role.

- Learn about key functions of our business: Merchandising, Planning, Private Brands, Corporate Finance, and Supply Chain

- Participate in a Visual Merchandising Activity
Qualifications
- Preferred GPA of 3.2 or above from a strong academic program
- Must attend an HBCU, HSI, or be a member of a diverse student organization on campus
- Preferred Majors include: Economics, Business, Apparel Merchandising, Supply Chain, Apparel Design, Retail Studies, Marketing, Finance, and Accounting
- Positive attitude, true team player, competitive nature, and a curious mind
- An excitement and interest in the Fashion and Retail Industry
- Ability to problem solve and use innovative and creative ideas
- Graduation date of Fall 2026 or Spring 2027
Additional Details
- Strong applicants will be selected for a phone interview with a member of our recruiting team. Selected candidates will be invited to attend the Freshman Diversity Career Symposium.
- Belk will provide transportation or reimburse participants for their mileage to Charlotte, NC for the Freshman Diversity Program.
- Once in Charlotte, we’ll provide hotel accommodation, as well as transportation to events in Charlotte.
- The Freshman Diversity Program will be held during Summer 2024.
