BELMORE is a Los Angeles-based hospitality group seeking an experienced and dedicated HR Manager to join its team. As the primary HR representative for the group, you will oversee all HR-related matters, with support from a Director resource. You will work closely with management to implement people strategies and engage with employees to foster a culture of trust and collaboration. You will be responsible for providing support in the areas of HR compliance, employee relations issues, leaves of absence, workers' compensation, and state unemployment/disability insurance claims. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to establish new processes and support team growth to contribute to our exciting business expansion.
Responsibilities:
- Create, oversee, and guide People programs, as needed, such as culture strategy, compensation, benefits, performance reviews, internal and external manager training, and employee rewards, while being mindful of financial and legal risks.
- Provide HR compliance guidance to managers and the Company in areas of FLSA, FMLA, state employment laws (California) for policy adherence and policy application
- Assist leadership in developing and implementing new policies and procedures, educate managers and employees on such, and answer employee questions regarding employee handbook interpretations
- Adhere to the New Hire Onboarding Checklist, including background and reference checks, new hire paperwork, work authorization (I-9) and work permits, payroll accounts, employee orientation, equipment setup, employment agreements, harassment training, and more.
- Accurately record and track new employee data and information in HRIS system
- Oversee the offboarding for voluntary and involuntary terminations as per the Offboarding Checklist, including timely final paycheck processing, state/federal separation notices, employee account access, equipment retrieval, exit interviews, etc.
- Counsel managers and employees on sensitive employee relations matters such as performance issues, coaching, and terminations
- Work with the accounting team to review bi-weekly payroll processing, ensuring compliance with wage and hour laws.
- Administer health plans, including open enrollments, enrollments, changes and terminations. Processes required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record-keeping and proper deductions.
- Evaluate the yearly contribution strategy for medical, dental, and vision benefit plans in accordance with ACA regulations, and conduct 401k/retirement audits as required.
- Conduct confidential internal investigations into allegations of employee misconduct, maintain records of these investigations, and involve relevant parties (Director, legal, etc.) based on the severity of the incidents.
- Oversee the resolution of investigations and ensure that corrective actions are implemented in accordance with company policy.
- Manage the recruitment process by collaborating with management to obtain hiring approval, creating job descriptions, establishing interview strategies, monitoring candidate progress, proposing salary ranges, and reviewing/creating offer letters.
- Oversee the offboarding for voluntary and involuntary terminations as per the Offboarding Checklist, including timely final paycheck processing, state/federal separation notices, employee account access, equipment retrieval, and exit interviews
- Serve as administrator for HR systems (Toast, Vensure PEO)
- Create, organize, and maintain employees’ files in compliance with company policy and labor law requirements
- Execute legally required HR reporting and internal requests concerning employee activity reports.
- Responding to verification of employment requests and personnel/payroll record requests
- Continually evaluate and improve the efficiency of HR/People processes and technologies
- Copy, mail, scan and email documents; perform other clerical functions and ad hoc tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or combination of education, experience and training
- SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR certification a plus
- Minimum 5 years of experience as HR Generalist, HR Business Partner, or HR Manager, ideally as sole HR practitioner for similar sized organization (approx 300 employees across all locations)
- Strong HR employment compliance experience (FMLA, FLSA, California employment law) required
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail
- Strong problem-solving skills, able to recommend standardized or ad hoc solutions in cases involving different variables
- Able to speak effectively before management, supervisory staff, and groups of employees
- Able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and follow up on short- and long- term cases related to Employee Life Cycle
- Experience with current HR/companywide systems preferred (Google, MS Excel, DocuSign, Adobe, Slack, Zoom)
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
The salary range specified above varies based on the position, level, and location specified in the job posting. Individual compensation within this range will depend on the candidate's experience, skills, and organizational requirements. Belmore anticipates hiring for this position at a rate near the midpoint of the range. Only in exceptional cases where a candidate possesses exceptional experience and expertise beyond what is required or anticipated for the position, would Belmore consider offering a salary near the higher end of the range.
