Nurse Charge Clerk

Benson Hospital is adding a Nurse Charge Clerk to our staff. This person will have great skills with MS Office and attention to detail.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reviews, research and codes emergency charts to ensure correct charges are allocated. Research patient accounts to ensure orders are present and then update the system account with correct charge codes. Ensures all patient records are updated and correctly coded within three days of visit.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Review patient charts and follows up on missing orders, then updates system with the correct charge codes.

2. Answers telephones enquires from hospital staff regarding patient accounts to ensure accuracy of charges.

3. Maintains and fosters effective public relations with patients and public and other hospital staff.

4. Provides system set up and initial review of patients charts to ensure correct coding of charges for all emergency visits, within three days.

5. Maintains charts and follows up on any activity that is not clear by asking for proper orders and clarifying events to ensure proper coding.

6. Adheres to TMCH organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies, and standards.

7. Performs related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); preferred associate degree, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience

2. One year of office experience, preferably in an acute care setting.

SKILLS

1. Knowledge of medical terminology.

2. Skill in customer relations and providing impeccable service both in person and via telephone.

3. Ability to make independent decisions based on guidelines.

4. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

5. Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence.

6. Ability to listen and accurately interpret others’ communication or instructions to take appropriate action.

7. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.

8. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

9. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

10. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule.
