Job description and main responsibilities:
We are looking for a synthetic/medicinal chemist with industrial experience to manage outsourcing projects with contract research organizations (CROs) having the following skillsets:
- An excellent knowledge of organic chemistry to help solve synthetic problems and purification issues for compounds synthesized at CROs.
- Manage all aspects of outsourcing activities and operations at CROs (i.e., compound requests, vendor evaluation and selection, quotations, PO generations, cost negotiations, shipping, custom clearance, invoices, and payments).
- Ensure that expectations within and between the organizations with regard to establishing costs, budgeting and reporting, invoicing, turnaround times, contractual documentation and approach, payment schedules and other business practices are established and managed.
- Provide training and communications to internal stakeholders and providers regarding sourcing best practices (reports, compound registration, shipping, and invoices) and any process improvements.
- Be the main contact between internal scientists and the CROs:
- Help resolve any technical issues in a timely, accurate and effective manner.
- Ability to partner with CROs to ensure compound deliveries are compliant with internal compound standards (purity, quantity, and other expectations).
- Monitor and track CRO’s scientific performance and operation (i.e., cost, timeline, compound delivery, report preparation, and general customer service).
- Provide proactive administrative duties and support to Discovery Chemistry Outsourcing team on:
- Shipment to CROs including SDS generations.
- CRO contract requests (MSA/SOW/CDA).
- On-site meeting schedules with CROs.
- Organize travel arrangements to CROs.
- Compound registrations.
- Track and report on costs and negotiated savings.
- Must have excellent understanding of laboratory safety (proper PPE) and SDS.
- Responsibilities also include structural elucidation/analysis, characterization, and quality control (QC) of organic compounds by 1D and/or 2D-NMRs, LC-MS, Chiral HPLC and other analytical methods.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve CRO business operations and objectives.
Requirements:
- Minimum MS degree in organic chemistry with 3-5 years of medicinal chemistry experience in drug discovery industry.
- Experience in managing contract research organizations (CROs).
- Exceptional interpersonal skills to develop effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, CROs, and cross-functional, cross-cultural teams.
- Experience bench chemist with strong capability in solving organic chemistry problems.
- Strong quality orientation with attention to details, accuracy and timelines.
- Exceptional communication (oral and written) skills; ability to communicate effectively to different levels and functions.
- Strong project management, organization, facilitation, problem solving, quantitative analysis, and financial skills.
- Familiarity with operational excellence and business process management
- Strong track record of collaboration and relationship management.
- Computer and software savvy necessary.
