Job Posting for Transportation Service Representative at Berkshire and Eastern Railway
SUMMARY:
The person in this position plans and coordinates safe, efficient, and proper makeup of outbound trains and switching of inbound trains. He or she ensures that trains are in compliance with all regulations and rules; oversees yard switching crews in a supervisory role, and ensures crew members are following safety rules when performing work. This person also assigns switching duties to crews, prioritizes work in order to meet customer needs, and communicates with managers for efficient coordination and scheduling of trains and crews in and out of switching yards.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Take charge of the yard, including but not limited to employees, movement of trains, and distribution and movement of cars within the yard (except on main tracks and controlled sidings)
Ensure that trains are properly made up and dispatched at the appointed times
Monitor train movement and conditions affecting movements such as weather conditions, train crew availability, engine and equipment availability, track bulletins, general orders, and timetables
Ensure safety and performance, coordinating responses to unplanned events and emergency situations
Communicate via telephone or radio with train crews, yard supervisory personnel, MoW personnel, management staff, and customers regarding yard movement and conditions of yard tracks
Monitor crews’ federal hours of service and recrew if necessary
Perform various administrative duties related to hazardous materials, documentation of train movements, and reporting of rule violations
Assist in all activities that support the operation of T&E crew management to ensure that train job positions are filled to operate the railroad in a safe and efficient manner and that customer needs are met
Manage other projects and perform other duties as assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Excellent working knowledge of day-to-day railroad operations and practices
Working knowledge of safety rules and operating rules
Ability to be self-directed and to thrive in a fast-paced, pressure-filled work environment
Good leadership skills
Good organizational skills
Good oral and written communication skills
Knowledge of RMI and federal regulations
Strong work ethic
Prior terminal and/or road-operations experience preferred
Supervisory experience preferred
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR CREDENTIALS:
Associate degree; bachelor’s degree preferred
Five years of work experience in the railroad industry, with supervisory duties; seven years of work experience in the railroad industry preferred
