Purpose of the job:
The Dispatcher assists the flight crew in planning flight paths, taking into account aircraft performance and loading, en-route weather, departure station and destination weather as well as forecasts for the route of flight. Dispatchers provide a flight following service for each flight. The dispatcher shares responsibility for the exercise of operational control with the captain of each flight which gives them authority to divert, delay or cancel a flight.
Duties:
- Plan flights as assigned and obtain information regarding purpose of the flight, weather, operating procedures, passenger/cargo loads, origin and destination airfields, requested schedule and special instructions
- Ensure proper preparation of flight plans, considering such factors as altitude, terrain, weather, range, weight, cruise control data, airport facilities and navigational aids
- Ensure all flights are released in accordance with FAR part 135 guidelines and all of the necessary documentation is provided to the flight crew for legal and safe completion of each flight
- Follow all assigned missions on tracking software and report deviations to operations management
- Maintain historical data on all flights and provide necessary reporting to operations management.
- Ensure each flight is completed as assigned by the company/customer, strictly adhering to schedules, routes of flight and load manifests.
- Communicate routinely with on site management personnel on any issues with regard to safety of flight, aircraft maintenance status, flight crew status, operational communication issues, customer concerns or personnel issues.
Requirements
Minimum years of experience necessary to perform essential functions of the job:
- Preferred: Have at least one year of experience as an aviation dispatcher operating under FAR part 135 flight rules.
Minimum education level to perform essential functions of the job:
- Minimum High School diploma (Preferred: Undergraduate degree)
Unique Skills or Certifications:
- FAA Dispatch Certification required
- Driver license
- Aeronautical weather knowledge
- Ability to perform duties without direct supervision, work odd hours.
