What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accountant II - Banking Services position at Bexar County?
Under general supervision by the Banking Manager, this position performs a variety of accounting banking and auditing functions. This includes maintenance of appropriate accounts, ledgers, journals, registers, and other financial records, reconciliation of various financial statements and documents, processing of wire transfers for payment of invoices or expense vouchers, and the preparation of routine or standard reports concerning financial operations and data throughout the year.
- Reconciles bank accounts to general ledger
- Reconciles credit card and ACH transactions
- Communicates with bank for daily/weekly Automatic Clearing House (debits and credits), Electronic fund transfers, credit card transactions, cleared checks, and other forms of activity
- Performs banking transactions and downloads information using the bank's online systems
- Prepares, reviews, and uploads check information and other financial data into financial system
- Prepares and maintains spreadsheets
- Communicates with County departments regarding bank activity
- Balances monthly receivables
- Prepares periodic reports as needed such as yearly escheatment to the State
- Performs other duties as assigned by managers as needed
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or closely related field and two (2) years' experience in accounting, finance, or closely relate field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of commonly accepted accounting practices and procedures, and skill in entering and reconciling financial data; advanced working knowledge of desktop application skills, especially proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Skill in problem solving, decision making, and maintaining accurate records; requires some degree of initiative and independent judgment
- Ability to operate personal computer peripherals, and basic office equipment; ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers
- Must submit a resume of previous working experience and certified college transcript
- Must pass proficiency test for bank reconciliation and Microsoft Excel
- Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
- Must clear a pre-employment physical and pre-employment drug screen test
- May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
- Working conditions are primarily in an office environment
- Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying of 5-10 lbs.; visual acuity, speech, and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate computer keyboard. Subject to handling, sitting, walking, reaching, bending, standing and handling to perform the essential functions
