Merchandise Associate

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

Is directly accountable and responsible to the Bookstore/Food Service Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for assisting the Bookstore/Food Service Manager with the daily operations of the bookstore.
• Responsible for coordinating the merchandise department.

COMPENSATION: $36,900 - $41,500 based on directly related experience. Paid health insurance, life insurance, retirement, employee tuition waiver, spouse/dependent tuition discount.

Serves as a buyer - 40%

• Serves as clothing buyer for the Bookstore, in store and online. Receives clothing, graduation regalia and giftware into the POS system, creates purchase orders and requests for payments.
• Maintains online store: Updates with new product and clothing. Adds web images and maintains inventory online. Maintains connection with two online clothing companies, Adidas and Follett-On-Demand.
• Works with BSC Departments and Clubs for special order items for events on campus.
• Serves as buyer for in store merchandise and course materials such as: computers, art supplies and, office supplies. Orders kits for Electronics and Art, orders tools for Line Worker, HVAC, Welding, Carpentry, and Auto Tech programs.
• Orders and maintains store office supplies, register paper, bags, bookmarks, and related items needed at the checkout. Also maintains supplies for the MBS ticketing system and supplies needed for merchandising.

Assists with the daily operations of the bookstore - 50%

• Provides sales and customer service.
• Maintains good public relations while working with employees and customers.
• Handles monetary functions including cash security, use of point-of-sale system, and processing deposits.
• Assists with processing online textbook and clothing orders, processes returns; and paperwork, communicates with companies, packs, and ships per freight requirements.
• Assists with year-end inventory and processes inventory reports.
• Plans sales and promotions and works with Departments across campus to promote student activities.
• Assists in maintaining inventory in point-of-sale system, checks for pricing corrections and watches to make sure products are rang in register correctly.
• Serves as lead cashier. Trains Student workers and Temp Employees at the registers.
• Provides assistance to Mystic Java with making coffee drinks and selling convenience items. Also assists in the Information Center with making ID's for students and employees.

Creates display cases; maintains accounts payable - 5%

• Maintains the accounts payable, applies credit memos, and requests refunds for credit balances for art supplies, supplies, software, and convenience merchandise.
• Maintains cleanliness of sales floor, stocks merchandise and clothing. Creates and maintains floor displays and display cases.
• Handles request for payment duties.

Miscellaneous duties - 5%

• Serves as lead for work study and temporary employees and creates the work schedules.
• Supports innovation, creativity, and ideas to improve/enhance processes, functions, etc. in the department and for the college.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

• Continuously - 66-100% - use hands dexterously, talk or hear.
• Frequently - 34-66% - stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, lift up to 50 pounds.
• Occasionally - 1-33% - climb or balance, stoop/kneel/crouch or crawl, taste, or smell, lift up to 50 pounds.

• Appropriate associate degree or four years of directly related experience
• Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated positive customer service skills, and ability to relate to people of varying ages and backgrounds.
• Good computer skills i.e., Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) email and electronic calendar (Outlook), and strong internet familiarity.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (essential function).

One year of customer service or buying experience.
