We have a wonderful opportunity for a Cell Technologist III to join our Cell Therapy team at Bloodworks Northwest. The incumbent will be responsible for functioning as a member of the Cord Blood Program and Cell Therapy Laboratory (CPL) team by performing the technical aspects of receiving, labeling, processing, testing, storing, and distributing products and samples received and handled by the Cord Blood Program and Cell Therapy Laboratory. Additionally, performs batch record review, database entry, and activities related to the occurrence process, departmental review of controlled documents, and validation protocols.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:
Perform and/or meet all Principal Responsibilities and Requirements of Cell Technologist I and II
Always follow Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
Prepare laboratory supplies and reagents, ensuring only released, non-expired materials are used
Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments
Receive and evaluate the acceptability of products and samples
Label, process, test, cryopreserve, and/or store products and samples
Prepare and store archive samples
Discard products and samples
Send samples for testing, and receive test results
Perform batch record review for completeness and accuracy
Perform data entry in paper or electronic database
Perform log book review for completeness and accuracy
Initiate and evaluate departmental Occurrences
Authors new and/or assist in the revision of departmental SOPs and forms
Authors new and/or assist in the execution and completion of approved validation protocol(s)

OTHER:
Upon demonstrating proficiency in performing the primary responsibilities, the employee may be eligible for promotion to Cell Technologist IV position. Other considerations may include number of high-risk level occurrence, number of overdue occurrences, number of pending occurrence action items, or specialized certification or training in activities that support additional laboratory services and programs in activities, such as Quality, Lean Six Sigma, and Performance Excellence.
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Must qualify as Testing Personnel, Moderate Complexity Testing, under CLIA personnel requirements found in Subpart M of the Code of Federal Regulations.
Bachelor of Science in medical technology, laboratory science, chemical, physical, or biological science (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS:
Maintain competency and proficiency in HPC, Cord Blood Core Policies, Processes, and Procedures beyond initial 6 months of hire as Cell Technologist I.
Maintain competency and proficiency in HPC, Apheresis Core Policies, Processes, and Procedures as well as Flow Cytometric Testing and Analysis (see below) beyond 12 months of hire as Cell Technologist II.
Competent and proficient in Technical Review of HPC, Cord Blood and HPC, Apheresis products.
Competent and proficient in one (1) additional skillset :
Automated Hematology System
Automated Microbial Detection System
Lab Equipment and Instrument Maintenance/Monitoring
HPC, Cord Blood Distribution
Functional proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access).
Knowledgeable about the safe handling of any potentially infectious material such as blood or other biological specimen blood and tissues.
Knowledgeable about applicable laboratory processing, aseptic technique, cryopreservation, storage, and distribution.
Knowledgeable about applicable laboratory assays and testing instruments.
Experience with flow cytometric analysis is desirable.
Experience with operation of biological safety cabinets (BSC) is desirable.
Knowledgeable about applicable regulations, such as cGMP, cGTP, CLIA.
Knowledgeable about applicable cellular therapy standards, such as AABB, FACT, NMDP.
Ability to work independently with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.Required physical activities include frequent standing, sitting, walking, talking, hearing, reaching, handling, feeling and repetitive motions of hands/wrists. Other required physical activities used less frequently include bending (used occasionally); stooping, kneeling and climbing, (all used rarely).Ability to frequently push and pull an average of 200 pounds throughout the workday is required.Ability to frequently lift and carry an average of 50 pounds throughout the workday is required
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This is a highly regulated position and is subject to meeting various regulatory requirements and accrediting agencies standards.
Job conditions to be expected include occasional evenings and holidays. Regular schedule may require weekends. Participate in on-call duties per departmental policies.As this is an essential position with direct responsibility to donors and/or patients, incumbent should be prepared to work extended and/or consecutive shifts and/or possibly at a different location during periods of inclement weather or other emergencies. This position has direct exposure to blood borne pathogens.Full vaccination against COVID-19 (defined as two weeks after receiving final vaccine dose), or approved medical or religious exemption to the vaccine, is a condition of this role.
