What are the responsibilities and job description for the Flower Farm Production Manager position at BLOOM floral design?
We are seeking an incredible hardworking human year round to manage production at our one acre flower farm Spirit of BLOOM in beautiful Northern Michigan
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage all aspects of the farm’s flower production, including propagation, bed preparation, transplanting, weed/pest management, irrigation, bucket washing, harvest, and post-harvest handling.
- Communicate with the team at Bloom Floral Design with weekly availability and updates.
- Manage an employee that is shared between the farm and Bloom's flower shop.
- Harvest flowers up to 30 hours per week at the height of the season.
- Trellis and stake beds, irrigate, fertilize, plant, and manage weeds as needed.
- Deliver flowers one to two times per week with a company vehicle.
- Maintain and improve crop plan, sowing schedules, and seed inventory.
- Complete greenhouse and field flower sowing, manage timely planting and weeding.
- Keep work areas clean and organized.
- Communicate weekly with the farm owner and studio manager
This work requires the physical and mental capacity to participate in the rigorous but deeply rewarding demands of agriculture. The flower production manager is a year-round position. Expect to work roughly 20 hours per week February - March, 50 hours per week April - September, and 20 hours or less per week October – January. This schedule is largely dependent on how the flower production manager manages their time.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of two years experience with cut flower production.
- Strong communication skills.
- Hoop House growing and tractor experience highly preferred.
- Hoping to find the perfect candidate for a 2 year commitment to grow with the farm.
Applicant should be driven, excited to learn, have strong time management and communication skills, and be in good physical condition. This is physically demanding work; be prepared to work outdoors in all the weather conditions Northern Michigan has to offer. We expect you to provide all your own necessary outerwear. You must be able to lift and carry at least 50 lbs.
