    Job Summary:

    Planning and implementing learning experiences that advance the intellectual and physical development of young children, including the readiness of children for school. Establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment, support social and emotional development of children and encourage involvement of the families in a Head Start program and support the development of relationships between children and their families.
    • This job reports to Director of Early Childhood/Special Services
    • This position is a Part- time, hourly position, non-benefits eligible position.
    • The hourly range for this position is: $16.98-$25.18. Salary will be based on previous experience.
    Essential Functions
    • Plan individual and group activities according to curriculum model to stimulate growth in language, social, motor skills.
    • Develop/use instructional materials suitable for verbal or visual instruction of pupils with wide range of age, mental, physical and emotional maturate.
    • Develop student worth as an individual and his role in his family and community.
    • Encourage students to express themselves creatively in art, music, and dramatic play.
    • Provide appropriate climate to establish and reinforce acceptable student behavior, attitudes and social skills.
    • Cooperate and seek assistance from other professional staff members.
    • Provide individual and small group instruction designed to meet individual needs of student in communications skills, health habits, physical skills and development of self-concepts.
    • Communicate regularly with parents by means of a newsletter, notes, phone calls and individual parent conferences.
    • Know district and building policies and procedures.
    • Maintain a clean, well-organized, properly supplied learning center.
    • Observe, interact, and supervise infants and toddlers on a regular basis to ensure they receive proper care.
    • Sterilize equipment, toys and supplies.
    • Attend trainings to help facilitate curriculum in the learning center.
    • Maintain the facility cleanliness to the stands of DFS licensing, Head Start, Early Head Start and Missouri Accreditation.
    • Prepare food for infants and toddlers
    • Ensure personal hygiene of infants and toddlers is maintained
    • Other duties may be assigned
    Qualifications:
    Previous experience working with children in an educational/daycare setting is desired.

    Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

    SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; controlling and motivating students; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
    KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: stages of child development; age appropriate activities; and positive reinforcement techniques.
    ABILITY is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; and working as part of a team.
    Responsibility
    Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organization’s services.
    Work Environment
    The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 45% walking, and 45% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

    Experience: Job Related experience preferred
    Education: Associates Degree (60 hours of college credit required) or working towards an Associates Degree in related field.
    Equivalency: None

    Employment in this position is contingent upon consent to and successful completion of a pre-employment background check, which may include a criminal background check, reference checks, verification of work history, and verification of any required academic credentials, licenses, and/or certifications, with results acceptable to the Blue Springs School District.
