Overview

BlueLinx is expanding again.  BlueLinx is looking for a strategic leader in their branch to support our growth efforts and our employee involvement.  We are looking for a strategic General Manager.  This position will report directly into the Regional Vice President and be held acceptable for all sales initiatives and operational efforts.  BlueLinx (NYSE: BXC) is a leading wholesale distributor of building and industrial products in the United States with over 70,000 branded and private-label products, and a broad distribution footprint servicing all 50 states. BlueLinx has a differentiated distribution platform, value-driven business model and extensive cache of products across the building products industry. Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. BlueLinx has over 2,000 associates and distributes its comprehensive range of structural and specialty products to approximately 15,000 national, regional, and local dealers, as well as specialty distributors, national home centers, industrial, and manufactured housing customers.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for aligning local market strategy with corporate strategy to maximize long-term profit / return on working capital.
  • Manages all aspects of logistics in assigned district. 
  • Eyes and ears of the organization in the defined territory.
  • Ensures all customer commitments are met and best practices are implemented for safety, safety certification, material handling, inventory management and delivery.  
  • Oversee sales strategy and work hand in hand with Operations (local, regional and corporate) to ensure communication is strong and expectations in regards to quality, safety, and the BlueLinx brand are appropriately defined.
  • Manages and develops relationships with key customers in assigned district and determines strategy for value proposition and product penetration.  
  • Maximizes sales efforts by focusing sales employees’ time on largest most profitable opportunities. 
  • Responsible for managing sales representatives to improve profitability, product penetration and product mix with all customers. 
  • Conducts joint sales calls with sales representatives to identify opportunities and maintain / build customer relationships (including sales representative coaching / mentoring).   
  • Manages inventory levels (including slow, inactive, liquidations/large buys and damaged inventory flow) and aligns local product mix with local market dynamics and product strategy.
  • Leads team; selects/hires; develops objectives; coaches and evaluates performance. 
  • Ensures direct reports obtain applicable training and development opportunities to enhance performance, development, and contributions to the company.  Holds direct reports accountable for individual and team performance.  

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited University is strongly preferred.
  • 8 plus years of experience with a solid track record of enhancing sales AND Operational involvement
  • Strong communication - communicating with executive and business partners, as well as front-line employees to gain trust and embracing the BlueLinx culture.
  • Strategic planning, negotiation, financial acumen (specifically financial statements), strong analytical skills (both qualitative and quantitative), forecasting, decision making, innovation, change management, persuasiveness and strong interpersonal skills. 
  • Strong leadership and teamwork abilities to function well at different levels in a team environment. 
  • Territory management and target marketing skills.
  • Solid change agent.  Comfortable with implementing change and discussing it will all parties involved.  
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, sense of urgency, problem solving and customer focused. 
  • Extensive product knowledge, consultative and relationship selling skills. 
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Software and relevant sales systems technology.
