The EHR Manager is responsible for leading the design, development, testing, maintenance, and deployment of the electronic health record application and related clinical information systems. Additionally, this role is responsible for the establishment, development, and promotion of standard architectures, as well as hardware and software components of the EHR system, in close collaboration with the IT department. This position works with multiple stakeholders to identify and implement new functionality and/or applications to ensure that applications and the related information technologies continue to meet the ever-changing clinical and business requirements of the organization and to enhance patient care. The role of EHR Manager incorporates elements of managerial work and technical skill, including leadership and oversight of a team of analysts and the day-to-day activities related to the application itself. This position will lead the development of solutions through subject matter expertise and by directing the efforts of assigned staff.
Responsibilities:
- Mentors, leads, and develops a team of subordinate systems specialists and/or analysts
- Gathers requirements, designs applications, and documents detailed specifications to maintain and support EHR applications
- As a subject matter expert, manages technical support for the EHR with internal staff and technical staff, including issue analysis, troubleshooting, and responding to and supporting users as needed
- Builds templates and reports for internal and external stakeholders
- Ongoing maintenance of the EHR including configuring and implementing updates to system
- Monitors, identifies, and implements new functionality and/or applications to enhance patient care and system usability
- Assesses implementation strategies and the impact those strategies will have on workflows and operation and facilitates proper change control practices to minimize impact on end users
- Project management for system enhancements assigned to project resources
- Validates and confirms new or changed functionalities to ensure customer specifications are met
- Maintains the test system and keeps test and live systems parallel in configuration
- Performs end-user testing with new interfaces to improve efficiency and modify applications as needed to better meet user requirements
- Project manages and implements 3rd party interfacing (e.g. external labs, HIE, imaging, etc.)
- Oversees and drive decisions in support of changes to integrated workflows, any significant changes to data collection processes and/or reports associated with the use of vendor software
- Works with vendors, clinical leaders, and operational leaders to enhance integrations and user workflows
- Works with Training team to test, train, and implement system upgrades and enhancements
- Champions standardization and promotes adoption of best practices for use of EHR system in all markets
- Maintains system security ensuring patient confidentiality
- Ensures adherence to departmental policies, procedures, and best practices
- Act as a liaison between IT staff, clinical staff, and operations staff regarding EHR
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in related field preferred
- EHR certification required, eMDs Aprima certification preferred
- 10+ years experience working in a health care environment directly supporting an EHR system
- Advanced technology skills required, including system management/configuration experience
- Experience with implementation and/or large-scale and complex standardization of EHR systems
- Project management experience required
- Experience with workflow enhancement and process design
- Experience with template design and development
- Demonstrated ability to lead and coach teams and individuals
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Excellent customer service skills with internal and external stakeholders
- Effective leadership skills with ability to coach and develop staff
- Ability to multi-task, pay attention to detail, and follow through to resolve outstanding issues
