Business Title: Supply Chain Operational Excellence Specialist
Job Description: Boart Longyear is hiring for a new Operational Excellence Specialist – Supply Chain and Engineering. This role will provide oversight and leadership for the delivery of continuous improvement in the key focus areas of supply chain operations and the new product development cycle. This role will be critical in promoting supply chain processes and practices that help us to minimize waste, improve costs, and elevate performance in logistics and fulfillment efficiencies to better serve our external and internal customers. Also, this role will be critical in helping to improve the product development cycle, from concept to manufacturing at scale. The person in this role will also help, but not be responsible for opportunity identification, defect elimination, failure analysis and avoidance, and problem-solving techniques to improve capability, reliability, performance, and cost effectiveness. They will be key in promoting good operations practices and culture to ensure optimum performance is achieved. They will be pivotal in ensuring Boart Longyear has the right capability in skills and competence of practitioners and professional persons in the performance of specific roles related to business improvement.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or 5-8 years of experience in global operating environment with operational excellence responsibilities.
- 8 years of experience in operationally focused leadership roles.
- Formal training in lean manufacturing, TOC, Six Sigma, project management, and modern operations management techniques or equivalent.
- Experience in continuous improvement in mining, oil & gas drilling, heavy industrials, field services or manufacturing advantageous.
- Experience in supply chain, logistics, and order fulfillment preferred.
- Experience in new product development cycle preferred.
- Familiarity with Oracle and QlikView advantageous.
- Excellent PC skills in Windows, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Experience developing and tracking business cases including financial modeling and metrics of project value delivery.
- Comprehensive knowledge of analysis and problem-solving methodologies.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, directors and the executive team.
Position Responsibilities:
- Work with leadership and staff in Supply Chain, Drilling Services, Products, Manufacturing, and Global Engineering to direct efforts in opportunity identification and related process improvement in supply chain and related operations (e.g., sourcing, inventory management, logistics, distribution center operations).
- Work with leadership and staff in Global Engineering and interfacing groups across the company to optimize the new product development cycle.
- Coordinate supply chain and new product development improvement efforts with those of other Operational Excellence team members across the 6 regions of global operations.
- Work closely with regional directors and other corporate support functions to diagnose opportunities in each region through periodic analysis of performance; assist with developing structured continuous improvement programs to deliver value for the business.
- Determine appropriate mechanisms for communications and tracking progress vs. target for improvements generated within the targeted business workstreams.
- Aggregate the tracking of continuous improvement actions and highlight areas of risk / underperformance.
- Drive the design and implementation of specific high value global improvement projects across all regions.
- Other duties may be assigned.
