Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for a Modification Mechanic to join our team in Tukwila, WA to work on the new E-7A.
Position Responsibilities:
- Hand layout and drill/ream holes in materials (e.g.,aluminum, titanium, fiberglass, steel),Disassemble, clean, and de-burr prior to installing fasteners per drawing as required.
- Drill, coldwork, ream, hone, bore, lap and/or countersink straight and close tolerance holes.
- Knowledge of various types of fasteners and allowable substitutions per Boeing Specifications as required.
- Torque fasteners and install lock wire or cotter pin through nut, bolt or other fasteners per drawing, IP, BAC specifications or engineering requirments, as required.
- Apply sealant, alodine, primer, adhesives, and special finishes as required by W/O, drawing, IP, or Boeing (BAC) specifications.
- Perform functional tests of aircraft systems, as required.
- Perform operational tests and/or repair of plumbing and mechanical systems, as required.
- Knowledge of the coordinate system to identify multiple axis (e.g., X,Y,Z) and airplane dimensional references (e.g., buttock, water and station lines).
- Use math that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals and fractions.
- Understanding of assembly and manufacturing processes and terminology such as overall part/assembly flows, process steps and various types of aircraft/aerospace parts, components and assemblies, as required.
- Read and interpret production illustrations (PI), Work Instruction (W/I), Shop Order Instance, (SOI), engineering, machine and/or tooling drawings. Capable of visualizing a three-dimensional shape from a two-dimensional view, converting left-hand to right-hand views and understanding symbols, flag notes, general notes and geometric dimensioning and tolerance as required.
- Determine if own work is complete and correct as specified by instructions, drawings and specifications.
- Operate computing equipment to access and input job tasks information (e.g., drawings, specifications and other online information systems).
- Set-up and operate aircraft jacking equipment including body and wing jack pads and jacks to facilitate assembly, maintenance and repair work as required.
- Use precision measurement tools (e.g., micrometer, calipers) to measure dimensions per drawing, sketches, and engineer requirements.
- Determine work assignment based on schedule or direction from supervisor. Review paperwork and drawings to determine work to be accomplished.
- Assist in locating work area using drawings, IP (Installation Plan), OSIP (Out of Sequence Installation Plan), NCO (Non-Conformance Order), or other paperwork that specifies airplane number, section number, and three-point location.
- Obtain and verify pre-picked detail parts (kits), standards, and assemblies were issued correctly by comparing part numbers and quantities to W/O, IP, and/or BOM (Bill of Material) on drawing(s). Ensure that parts issued are effective for the airplane and are free of visible defects.
- Operate mechanical lifts of various types (e.g., tiger and snorkel lifts), as required, to locate parts/assemblies into position or to perform assembly work.
- Use precision measurement tools (e.g., micrometer, calipers) to measure dimensions per drawing, sketches, and engineer requirements.
- Incorporate changes to aircraft to reconfigure to customer requirements. Install or rework interior and/or exterior components to engineering specifications.
- Check own work as well as others as requested after completion of each operation in job and/or completed job to ensure it is complete per drawing, that there are no defects and that area around job is clean, prior to putting up for inspection.
- Submit completed job or in-process checks, as required, to inspector at appropriate steps in sequence. Perform rework as required (e.g., pick-ups, special repairs).
- Consult with management and/or others (e.g., engineering, planning, inspection, or customer) on process/schedules or job-related issues as required.
- Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in approved manner (e.g., lubricants, primer).
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.
Security Clearance & Export Control Requirements:
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. (An Interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post Start is required.)
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Must be able to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.
- Minimum one year of experience as a machinist, mechanic, or other mechanical aptitudes.
- Minimum one year of experience in mechanical troubleshooting, disassembly, and repair.
- Must have the ability to read and interpret system prints and schematics.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- Preferred to have an active US Secret Security Clearance.
- Preferred three years of Aircraft Maintenance/Aircraft Structural Repair.
Relocation:
Relocation assistance is not a negotiable benefit for this position. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

This position is for 1st shift.

This is an hourly position governed by the International Association of Machinist (IAM-751) Collective Bargaining agreement.

Summary Pay Range: $26.50/Hr. - $45.30/Hr.
