Primary Purpose:
Supervise the campus custodial operations. Establish and follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Clear and valid Texas driver’s license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures
Ability to perform minor repairs
Ability to handle cleaning supplies
Experience:
5 years of custodial experience
3 years of Head Custodian experience preferred
(managerial experience preferred)
Supervisory Responsibilities and Duties:
- Thorough knowledge of custodial equipment
- Skilled experience in managing personnel and supervising custodial building and grounds operations
- Skilled experience in effectively planning and organizing custodial activities
- Ability to promote efficiency, morale and team work, interaction with fellow staff members
- Direct and assist in setting up facilities for special events
- Acquire supplies and custodial equipment and maintain inventory control to ensure adequate service levels and appropriate budget management through established procedures
- Ensure cleanliness and proper maintenance of the building and grounds
- Implement and maintain established cleaning schedule that will include cleaning of floors, whiteboards, waste baskets, windows, furniture, equipment, walls and restrooms
- Keep school building and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas neat and clean
- Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash
- Supervises and assists custodial personnel, using proper techniques with ground maintenance which includes parking lots, fence lines, playground areas and equipment, lawn shrubs, trees and flower beds
- Supervises and trains custodial personnel to use safe and proper work/cleaning techniques including the use of all inside/outside power equipment needed to support programs
- Make the plant available for maintenance repairs and activities, minimizing interference with curricular or extracurricular activities during normal or other than normal duty hours
- Maintains and supervises proper use of personal protective equipment (in case of an accident, the Head Custodian is responsible for timely reporting of the incident to the proper authorities, HR Dept.)
- Ensures compliance with Texas Hazardous Communications Act which includes training of the staff and emphasizing safety, storing, handling, labeling and application of all chemicals
- Performs additional duties and accepts other responsibilities as may be assigned
- Direct and monitor the work of custodians
- Plan and coordinate, prepare work schedules, supervise both day/night shift staff according to district procedures
Safety
Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing. Operate equipment and use tools according to established safety procedures.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor
- Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required.

Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis
Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel

Our salary compensation is calculated by a formula using the minimum, mid-point, and maximum pay rates on the applicable salary scale. It is based upon creditable years of experience provided in the applicant’s application and resume. Please make sure you attach a complete resume showing all years of workable experience. A division of 1 is factored for same or school district experience; division 2 for similar experience and division 3 for all other experience. The annual salary is calculated by hourly rate x number of hours in the day x number of actual work days. Our pay schedule is by academic year July 1st-June 30th and is divided over a 12 month period.
