What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director, People & Culture position at Boll & Branch?
As Director, People & Culture, you take a strategic, yet hands-on approach, to helping leaders and managers organize, develop and engage their teams. You build and manage People programs and processes that drive performance and enhance engagement, while strengthening our culture and community. You have strong consultative skills, coupled with a passion for thinking strategically and managing the details. You thrive in an ever-changing startup environment and are willing to contribute wherever necessary. You believe in a people-first approach to HR with a focus on creating an environment where everyone can do their best work. You will report to the Chief People Officer (CPO).
What you’ll do:
- Be a People team leader and mentor
- Work closely with the CPO as a thought partner on Boll & Branch’s talent strategy and programs
- Assist with keeping our employment brand fresh and differentiated to continuously attract top talent
- Manage a team including Business Partner, Corporate and People & Culture Associate - supporting their work and career development
- Be a strategic People partner
- Work closely with leaders to understand business needs and provide HR guidance to enable their teams to deliver on their objectives
- Develop and implement people strategies focused on all aspects of the employee lifecycle
- Empower people managers to take accountability for coaching and developing their teams
- Create hiring plans and recruitment strategies to meet those plans; pivot when needed if desired outcomes aren’t achieved
- Source and recruit for positions in Corporate and Retail, with a focus on Retail as well as Corporate leadership positions
- Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to managers and employees
- Support individual and team effectiveness by advising leaders on organizational design, talent reviews, people development, engagement, and retention
- Provide counseling and training for employees and managers on policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with employment laws
- Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues; conduct effective, thorough and objective investigations when needed
- Contribute to our Boll & Branch culture and community
- Regularly share best practices with the entire People & Culture team to ensure alignment across our approaches
- Analyze trends and metrics in partnership with the rest of the team to inform solutions, programs and policies
Key skills and experience:
- Minimum 8 years HR/People Ops experience, preferably in fast paced, growing businesses
- Working knowledge of multiple HR areas, including organizational design, recruiting, talent and performance management, compensation, benefits, employee relations, diversity and inclusion, culture and engagement, and US employment laws
- Demonstrated background evaluating and implementing People programs and initiatives across HR areas
- Experience coaching, influencing, and problem-solving with internal stakeholders
- Experience quickly diagnosing challenges, strategizing solutions, and implementing change
- Results orientation with strong planning and execution skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to build trust and relationships quickly
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Experience working with retail stores a plus
The primary location for this role is Summit, NJ. We believe our business and our culture are strongest when we work together in person. We also know that it’s helpful to have flexibility to work remotely. Currently we are operating under a hybrid model whereby all teams work in an office a minimum of two days per week (Tuesdays/Thursdays) and may be provided flexibility to work from home on other days. There may be times when you’re asked to work in our NYC office because it’s in the best interest of our business or your team.
The annual base salary range for this role is $125,000 to $175,000. It is important to note that our salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our size, industry, and the market and are one part of the total rewards that we provide. Individual pay rate decisions are based on several factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, scope of the role, and internal peer benchmarking.
