The mission of the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) is to protect, preserve, and promote the health and well-being of all Boston residents, particularly the most vulnerable. The BPHC envisions a thriving Boston where all residents live healthy, fulfilling lives free of racism, poverty, violence, and other systems of oppression. The BPHC sets an expectation that all staff and leadership commit, individually and as part of the BPHC team, to hold ourselves accountable to establishing a culture of antiracism and advance racial equity and justice through each of our bureaus, programs, and offices.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Centers for Disease Control recently funded an Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) Project at Boston Public Health Commission, implementing over the next 5 years. The grant expands and launches multiple overdose prevention strategies, while leveraging surveillance and analytics to make programming responsive and equitable. The OD2A Project will distribute naloxone through Boston's neighborhoods using innovative methods and partnerships with stakeholders. The grant will also fund overdose rescue training, increasing capacity in both service providers and the public. Engaging our local partners and integrating feedback from people with lived experience is essential to achieving the project objectives. OD2A Boston prioritizes groups burdened by increased risk of overdose; Black and Latinx communities, as well as people recently incarcerated or experiencing homelessness. The project furthers the agency mission of protecting, preserving and promoting the health and well-being of all Boston residents, particularly those who are most vulnerable. OD2A aligns with BPHC's strategic plan and commitment to be a model leader in addressing racial justice and health equity. As part of the cooperative agreement, Boston works closely with the CDC and networks with other OD2A jurisdictions across the country, sharing information about emerging practices.
