Position: Camp Nurse
Location: BCNY Camp @ Harriman State Park, 553 Arden Valley Road, Southfields, NY 10975
Salary: $10,000 (with additional compensation for training and prep)
Employment Type: Seasonal, Residential, June 1 - August 18, 2023
Mandatory Training: June 26 –30, 2023
About Us
The Boys’ Club of New York (BCNY), founded in 1876, is a youth development organization with the mission to empower boys and young men through out-of-school time programming at our clubhouses and our residential summer camp in Harriman State Park. BCNY’s Harriman Base Camp’s vision is to foster emotional, physical, and ethical growth through thoughtful and diverse activities and programs for boys and young men age10 through 17. BCNY campers will develop life skills and awareness of social responsibility through outdoor exploration and education. While appreciating their natural surroundings, they will become active stewards of the environment.
Job Summary
We are a COVID-19 proactive organization who makes every effort to create and maintain an environment that is safe for our members and staff.
The Camp Nurse will report to the Camp Director. The Camp Nurse is responsible for overseeing the health and safety of campers and staff. Must be available for mandatory training in June.
Job Requirements
Camp employees are not required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, however, BCNY strongly encourages all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and obtain a booster shot.
Responsibilities
Advise Camp Director of health and safety procedures to be followed throughout camp
Administration of the Health Center
Care and welfare of all campers admitted to Health Center
Report all admissions and serious accidents to the Camp Director
Administer all medications and treatment according to Standing Orders and keep records of treatments
Be responsible for all drugs and medications brought to camp by campers and use as directed by campers physician or as per prescription
Establish a schedule for "sick call"
To keep all needed files and records required by The Boys' Club of New York, American Camping Association, and the New York State Department of Health
Plan and conduct a staff training session during the orientation period. Topics to be discussed: Health and Safety Procedures, Emergency Procedures, Health Center Procedures, and Child Abuse
Guide the staff in regard to their responsibilities in observing and reporting illness, injury, or unsafe practice or conditions that might contribute to an accident
Check the living quarters of all staff and campers and kitchen daily for health and safety conditions
Inform Camp Director of equipment and supply needs
Properly inventory and store all equipment and supplies at the end of the season
Prepare and keep restocked all first aid kits in needed areas
Qualifications
Licensed as a Registered Nurse, Physician, PA, EMT in the State of New York
Current CPR and First Aid certification required
Driver’s license (preferred)
Experience in both children and adult illness/injury care.
Desire to work with children and young adults.
Community health knowledge.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to physically assist members with mobility impairment
Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist members in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of members.
