What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager Surgery Center position at Boys Town?
- Provides oversight of dailycare for surgical patients by being cognizant of infection control concerns, and safety/risk management issues.
- Partners with the Unit Director in interviewing, training, supervising, competency evaluations, observations, reporting of unsafe practices, noncompliance with nursing policies, annual evaluations, and being available to provide timely advice, assistance, and direction across the unit.
- Assists with the creation and maintenance of the work schedule. Assists with maintaining appropriatestaffing ratios to support safe patient care.
- Provides input to the Director for the annual operational and capital budgets.
- Assists the Director with monitoring and analyzing the monthly budget performance and acts, as indicated to achieve budget targets.
- Provides input to the Director for equipment/supply selection, evaluation, pricing, and purchase utilizing provider and staff input.
- Assists the Director with the planning efforts to improve operations to include staffing plans, professional practice standards, and various performance improvement plans.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to resolve conflict in crisis situations.
- Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to communicate concisely both orally and in writing, and work well with diverse professional staff, coworkers, and consumers.
- Ability to articulate an understanding of the mental health needs and potential medical interventions for youth of various ages.
- Ability to maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality.
- Ability to demonstrate tolerance to work under adverse conditions such as constant interruptions, inappropriate behaviors, and dealing with potential verbal and physical threats from youth.
- Ability to help maintain a safe and positive environment for youth and co-workers.
- Ability to utilize a variety of computer and electronic medical record programs to manage work; familiarity with Windows and Office programs.
- Ability to coordinate nursing/surgical tech student preceptors and clinical programming with local nursing/surgical tech schools.
- Ability to present Boys Town continuum of care to nursing/surgical tech schools for the purpose of recruitment.
- Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills, teaching ability, and willingness to be flexible in scheduling.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Registered Nurse who is a graduate of an accredited school with a current state license required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing required.
- Minimum 5 years of experience working in a surgical center (Operating Room) or Hospital required.
- Current basic life support required.
- PALS and ACLS certification within 6 months of employment required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous Lead/Charge/Supervisory experience preferred.
