SUMMARY
To instruct all students in the fundamental skills and knowledge of the sport or activity. To provide an atmosphere for successful individual development through monitoring, evaluating, and reinforcing objectives. To follow the policies and procedures of BESD #61.
DUTIES
- Knowledge, Skill and Abilities
- Be knowledgeable of IESA rules and regulations.
- Supervise all practices.
- Supervise athletes at all events.
- Organize and conduct tryouts.
- Make arrangements for approved travel and supervise students on trips.
- Have a thorough understanding of the rules and regulations regarding the program.
- Perform other duties or tasks related to the program as requested.
- May be responsible for supervising students during out-of-town activities. This may involve staying overnight and driving a district vehicle.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Follow board policies and administrative rules and regulations.
- Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Requires the ability to sit on a bus for extended periods of time.
- Requires the ability to carry and/or provide aid to an injured player.
- Requires the ability to coach in a variety of temperatures, humidity levels, and various weather conditions.
- Must be able to handle both emotional and physical stress.
- Must be able to work long and irregular hours.
- Must be able to work in noisy and crowded environments.
- Occupationally exposed to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials based on task and procedures required.
- Must be able to lift equipment necessary for their sport.
- Requires the ability to run practice without fatiguing.
- Requires the ability to demonstrate agility drills, stretching exercises, and sport specific activities.
- Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
General Responsibilities:
- Help keep an accurate and up-to-date inventory.
- Assume responsibility for constant care of equipment and facilities used in the program.
- Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
- Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.
- Comply with legal and regulatory requirements of the various governmental agencies.
- Adhere to all district health and safety policies.
- Perform all duties required by state and federal statutes and by Board of Education policy and action.
- Other duties as assigned by the Principal and Athletic Director or other appropriate administrative staff, which are consistent with the general requirements and qualification of the position.
