GIS Developer – ABOUT THE ROLE Responsible, at a very high level of efficiency, for the professional maintenance, continuance and further development of the client’s Geographic Information System (GIS) through the use of computer aided/automated (manual if required) cartographic mapping work, web-based GIS, and relational database management; Supports all staff within the client’s Office Building and other designated client locations.
Essential Functions/ Day to Day: -Leads the development and implementation of new and manages existing queries and automated scripts -Performs complex spatial analysis and database queries, developing and maintaining data layers and spatial data structures using GIS tools and relational databases -Reviews assigned project requirements, and in conjunction with other staff, prioritizes project needs, constructs project goals, devises timelines, and makes decisions concerning distribution of project resources -Researches and resolves advanced GIS related problems and areas of concern associated with digital mapping and database files, utilizing aerial photo interpretation, cadastral and street map analysis, and field research among other research techniques -Assists the public and client staff in defining their mapping and geographic data needs -Performs advanced GIS analysis using mapping and other related software tools -Prepares complex custom maps for display from digital data using GIS mapping software and computer input/output devices (scanner, GPS, plotter, printer, etc.) -Maintains and continuously updates numerous relational databases containing geographic related and other relevant data sets across multiple servers (on premise and cloud based) -Utilizes GPS receivers and data loggers to collect field data and post process the results to the GIS -Leads advanced processing (digitizing, programming/scripting, encoding, etc.) of various sources of information for inclusion in various client geographic and database files and maps -Develops recommendations and solutions to the design and implementation of data input and output methodologies; data processing, manipulation and analysis techniques; and data transfer and storage schemes -Develops and recommends appropriate methods, procedures, and applications for the effective use of GIS technology in the production and maintenance of GIS data -Assists in the development of requests for proposals and participates in the evaluation of responses and selection of vendors -Assists in the development of management reports -Contribute to the development of GIS standards, established methodologies, and practices
