DEAN OF ACADEMICS AND POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT
General Description
The Bremerton School District Dean of Academics and Positive Behavior Support will identify and provide academic behavioral support services to secondary students whose academic behaviors and/or absenteeism are interfering with their academic success in core learning subjects. The focus of this position is to create a proactive approach to lagging academic behavior skills by resolving academic behavior and/or attendance barriers that interfere with consistent academic success. To be effective in this role, the staff member must hold all students to a high level of academic accountability and be able to collaborate with students, families, classroom teachers, school counselors, and school administration.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the school's Student Engagement Team that uses the RTI at Work model, to provide certain access to Tier III interventions for students needing extra support in academic behaviors to improve their academic success
Create a robust and consistent early warning system incorporating early identification and on-going monitoring of all students using progress monitoring tools (ex: iReady) and/or teacher collaborative team created common summative or common formative assessments to react quickly to academic behavior skill needs issues and address them with early interventions
Support the implementation of a system of monitoring students’ absenteeism and providing support to other members of the Student Engagement Team for students maintaining regular attendance and academic behavior, including personal contacts with families, community support providers and home visits
Provide direct support services to individual or groups of students to meet the students’ needs in social behavior. Align direct supports to AVID WICOR strategies to align to school-wide Tier 1 academic behavior expectations.
Act as liaison between regular education teachers and special education teachers; act as liaison to the Fresh Start student behavior program Act as liaison of communication between regular education teachers, special education teachers, elective teachers, CTE teachers, etc.; for students directly receiving support act as liaison to the Fresh Start student behavior program
Implement a system of “check and connect” with students. Design a morning check-in process and a reconnection at the end of each day. Possible connection points may be required at other times of transition or need during the school day.

Research and design entrance and exit criteria for Mountain View Middle School’s Student Engagement Team as a subset of the schools' MTSS framework.
Design and collect data on program outcomes, i.e., increased attendance, increased achievement, reduction of referrals
Provide direct services to special education students
Attend training sessions or meetings as required
Perform other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Washington State Teachers Certificate
Successful teaching experience in the K-12 system
Demonstrated successful experience in group management and leadership skills
Must have ability to work well with students, parents, and school/district staff members
Ability to assume responsibility and carry out assignments with little supervision in a dependable and timely fashion
Well-organized, with the ability to keep accurate data and records
Ability to serve as a good role model for students and staff members
Familiarity with the culture of poverty working to support students and families from different cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
Proficient with information technology, including email, and compute software
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Excellent attendance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Special Education, Bilingual, or Administrator Endorsement
Experience creating and sustaining school-wide system of interventions
