What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Winemaker position at Brew Recruit?
Brew Recruit is seeking an experienced Head Winemaker to join a state-of-the-art winery in Upstate NY. Our client was established over 10 years ago and currently produces over 4000 cases per year. The vineyard offers wine tastings, a full restaurant, event space and grows most of their grapes on site. As the Head Winemaker, you would be responsible overseeing all aspects of the production of premium quality wines. We are looking for someone with a full understanding of winemaking, hands-on experience with harvest, fermentation, filtering, production, blending, and bottling. What is awesome about this role, is the owners wants this person to own the process and the wine. And, as such, is looking to let someone decide on what wines to make and how. They want a winemaker they can trust and lean on for advise and guidance as it related to production.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate wine production, warehousing, distribution and wine finishing
- Establish production and inventory control programs to enhance winery operations
- Participate in routine inventory tasting and blending sessions
- Examine grape samples from the vineyard and from outside growing partners to determine such factors as sugar, acid content, and ripeness
- Manager all aspects of the cellar
- Ensure superior cellar sanitation and safety standards
- Oversee harvest and crush operations as well as post-harvest wine management
- Assist in vineyard work as needed
- Participate in events and activities geared toward sales and marketing of the vineyard
- Upon request be customer facing and provide private guides, tasting, events, etc.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Enology, Fermentation Science or Viticulture or related science ispreferred.
- Minimum 3 years hands-on experience
- Prior management or leadership desired
- Vineyard knowledge and experience desirable
- Must understand OSHA safety procedures
- Must be customer oriented, approachable and well spoken
