We are currently seeking a purpose-driven candidate with an ownership mentality to fill an open position as a Scientist - Team Leader. This position will be located in Rolla , MO.
Summary: Acts as the technical lead for research and development projects. Creates new materials and processes to meet industry challenges, and refines these down to well characterized product offerings.
Responsibilities:
- Serves as the technical lead for research and development projects, driving multiple projects and multiple pathways.
- Guides subordinates to complete tasks.
- Presents to customers and at industry forums.
- Documents work and initiate the submission of new intellectual property, and provide help with IP maintenance.
- Keeps up to date on current industry needs within the SBU and looks for new approaches to meet the needs by chemistry and process.
- Provides help with experiment design and methods for in-depth data analysis.
- Acts as a mentor for laboratory practices.
- Helps set safety and housekeeping standards and monitors how they are practiced in daily activities.
- Keeps up-to-date on best laboratory notebook practices and helps to improve and implement the process.
Project planning and management:
- Has in-depth knowledge of customer needs and applications and is capable of translating these needs into innovative technical directions for R&D to pursue.
- Assist division with technology planning. Act as project manager with full responsibilities for planning and tracking. May include supervision of multiple projects.
- Consistently provide creative technical leadership at the project, group, and division level.
- Guide R&D staff in technical matters to assure project and division success.
- Demonstrate technical leadership by developing new patented intellectual property and authoring technical publications.
- Supervise and evaluate team members and junior staff working on the same project(s).
- Demonstrate excellent work habits and attitude and a good spirit in cooperating with others.
- Effectively utilizes guiding principals to project management such as SMART when defining project vision, objectives, and tasks: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and the Time needed to complete the project.
- Address both the important technological and economic requirements for achieving program success.
Credentials and Education:
- Master’s Degree plus 6 years or
- PhD plus 3-4 years of experience preferred or
- Experience in packaging solutions preferred
- Leadership experience preferred
- Equivalent combination of education and related experience.
