JOB STATEMENT: The Microbiology Senior Technician will execute all microbiological tasks, procedures and protocols in order to assure that the product produced, cellared and/or bottled by Bronco Wine Company meets government, customer and company specifications. This position will allow for personal development and exploration of the microbiological concepts encountered during winemaking. Provide supervision of subordinate Microbiology personnel.
Essential Duties:
- Understand and comply with all ISO 9001, HACCP, GLP and GMP requirements and processes
- Use of sterile techniques
- Processing and overseeing of winery samples (product, cork, water, before and after filtration, etc.)
- Plating samples may need to be diluted to recover countable plates
- Subordinate technicians understanding and following procedures
- Isolation and typing of microbes encountered in the winery environment
- Conduct cell counts and cell viabilities
- Oversee and read the plates and data entry
- Maintenance of Microbiology files
- Preparation and sterilization of media, slants, bottles, etc.
- Oversee and conduct sanitation processes for the bottling lines and the Cellar
- Swabbing the bottling line/s, tanks, and lineups
- Subordinate technicians understanding and following procedures
- Interfacing with other departments on microbiological issues
- Special projects and experimentation
- Liaising with Quality Assurance pertaining issues of similar interest
- Cleaning and maintenance of the lab
- Calibration and maintenance of equipment
- Maintain stock of supplies & parts
- Safety awareness
- Participation in monthly safety inspections
- Watch for potential microbiological problem
- Investigate problems
- Initiate troubleshoot process
- Inform the Microbiology supervisor and manager of any problems related to Microbiology
- Training of technicians in microbiological procedure
- Supervise the training of the Technician I
- Help coordinate the daily workload/schedule of the shift with the Lead
- Other non-specified duties as designated by manager/ supervisor
Qualifications
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Educational/Experience:
- B.S./B.A. in Microbiology or related field and/or 3 - 4 years of work experience at a Winery (Food/ Beverage Industry) in Microbiology
- Familiarity with Microbiology concepts and techniques
- Bottling line experience
- Sanitation experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Ability:
- Good manual dexterity
- Work within a team environment
- Work without supervision
- Work any shift
- Travel to other facilities
- Able to work at heights of 50’ (tops of tanks)
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently sitting/walking/standing
- Lift 30 – 40lbs. occasionally
- Use hands to grasp, feel, move, reach or assemble
Work Environment:
- Limited noise level
- Indoor and outdoor climates
Safety Requirements:
- All employees must be trained and familiar with Bronco Wine Company’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program
- Report any accidents and/or unsafe conditions to your supervisor and/or manager immediately
- Comply with all General Work Safety Rules pursuant to Bronco Wine Company’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program
- Use of Personal Protective Equipment as required
- Side shield safety glasses, safety vest, hearing protection, head protection and approved footwear when in production facility
- Specific Safety Knowledge
- Must have knowledge of all Bronco Safety rules, GMP, GLP, Bottling Safety, HACCP and Chemical Safety
