What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian (Water & Wastewater Services - Business Operations) position at Broward County?
The Water and Wastewater Services (WWS) Business Operations Division, Facilities and Grounds Services Section, is seeking five (5) qualified self-motivated, detailed-oriented, and commercially experienced Custodians to perform building and grounds custodial work and assist in performing emergency activities.
The candidates will primarily be responsible for maintaining WWS building and grounds clean, neat, and in a safe manner that meets organizational standards. Job duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Performs routine cleaning tasks, such as washing, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, dusting, and removing trash.
- Performs heavy duty cleaning tasks on areas such as restrooms, locker rooms, sidewalks, windows, and building walls.
- Performs a variety of light maintenance activities and custodial project work, such as pressure cleaning, replacing dispensers, changing light bulbs, and performing floor treatment.
- Cleans, organizes, and maintain custodial storage areas.
- Inspects areas for cleanliness and supplies. Replenishes supplies, as needed.
- Maintains inventory of a variety of cleaning products, supplies, and equipment.
- Cuts grass on adjoining lawns; collects litter and sweeps walkways around buildings.
- Moves and sets up furniture; prepares rooms for scheduled programs and activities.
- Utilizes a variety of janitorial tools and equipment, and specialty cleaning equipment, such as pressure cleaners, floor scrubbers, buffers, vacuums, and extension poles.
- Performs a variety of security related duties in accordance with established security procedures, as needed.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- Building surfaces vary in height and difficulty.
The position requires the use of cell phone, tablet, and work order tracking software. Candidate must be able to climb stairs, ladders, and perform cleaning from an aerial lift.
Each available position will be assigned a shift Monday through Friday; each shift will be for 8 hours ranging between 7 am to 11 pm. Shifts may change due to operational needs.
General Description
Performs a variety of custodial and related maintenance duties in an assigned area or building.
Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks.
Special Certifications and Licenses
* License or Certification in Plumbing or Carpentry
* Cleaning Management Institute (CMI) Certification or equivalent
* 1 years of experience using Maximo, DataSplice, or a similar maintenance management software.
* 1 years of documented knowledge and work experience in one or more of the following areas: occupational exposure, chemical disinfection , biohazard precautions, and Personal Protective Equipment (purposes and types).
* 1 years of documented custodial work experience in an industrial/commercial/plant setting.
* 1 years of documented knowledge and work experience using janitorial services software CompuClean or similar software

Operates and cleans manual elevators.
Cuts grass on adjoining lawns; collects litter and sweeps walks around public buildings.
Cleans offices, break rooms, halls, stairways, and similar areas in order to provide a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for the public and other staff.
Performs a variety of light maintenance activities in order to maintain a safe, clean work environment, facilitate ongoing operations, and maintain day-to-day services.
Maintains inventory of a variety of cleaning products and supplies.
May perform a variety of security related duties in accordance with established security procedures.
Performs related work as assigned.
