General Description
The Maintenance Worker position with Port Everglades Facilities Maintenance Division performs a variety of general building and grounds related maintenance and repairs, and repairs at an assigned Port facility. This class works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires six (6) months in maintenance or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses Required
Ability to secure and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License at the time of appointment and for the duration of employment.
Ability to secure and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification card (TWIC) within 60 days of employment and for the duration of employment.
Ability to secure and maintain a valid Seaport Business Purpose Credential for the duration of employment.
Maintain regular and predictable attendance, with occasional requirements for work after regular business hours.

Preferences
- 2 years experience performing commercial facilities maintenance
- 2 years experience performing construction helper functions
- 2 years experience operating small tools and equipment

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Perform semi-skilled manual labor assisting construction trades including but not limited to carpentry, electrical, plumbing, welding, painting, and vehicle maintenance and stocking, overhead door, fendering, HVAC, loading bridge, and general labor tasks.  May assist other Port Divisions with maintenance-related duties as assigned.

Perform a variety of facility maintenance work in order to ensure a clean, safe environment for the public and County employees, minimize major repair/replacement costs, and/or extend the useful life of equipment/fixtures. 

Clean berths, terminals, grounds, and sidewalks, in order to provide a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for the public and other staff; moves a variety of furniture and related items in order to relocate/rearrange work stations/offices, set up for meetings, activities, and events. 

Manually pick up trash, empty waste barrels throughout the port and cruise terminals, and hauls trash to the disposal site.

Operate forklifts, boom lifts, scissor lifts, bucket trucks, flatbed trucks, pickup trucks, loading bridges, skid steers, and other large and small equipment in a safe and effective manner.

Carryout semi-skilled work, both supervised and unsupervised, performing manual labor for construction-related trades including, but not limited to, minor carpentry, drywall, concrete, furniture, signs, electrical, plumbing, painting, loading bridge, HVAC, changing batteries, and general labor tasks.

Interact with the public and/or other County employees in order to give directions/information, explain work activities/procedures, identify their service needs, and/or resolve day-to-day operational issues.
Set out temporary traffic control devices at the work site in order to provide a safe work environment and facilitate safe and efficient traffic flow.

Prepare a variety of log sheets, both paper and digital, in order to document work activities, track equipment usage, and provide summary information to management.

Maintain a variety of construction-related equipment in order to ensure that the equipment operates safely and appropriately when needed, extend the useful life of the equipment, minimize downtime, and minimize major repair/replacement costs.

Operate a wide variety of hand tools, cleaning, and motorized tools and equipment.

Perform other related work as assigned.

Physical Demands

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment)

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

Involves routine and frequent exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals.
