***GRANT-FUNDED***Full Time Eligible 80 hours per pay period. High school graduation or equivalent. One to Two years of related experience. Including at a minimum one year of experience as a Peer Support Specialist or similar position. Must have a minimum of two years stability managing personal recovery and using coping skills. Must have first-hand knowledge and experience with substance abuse recovery.
Peer Support Specialist serves as patient advocate providing information and peer support for patients in the emergency Room, inpatient units and in the community. Under General supervision to department policies and procedures, provides a range of activities including advocacy, linkage to resources, sharing of experience, community and relationship building, group facilitation, skill building, mentoring and goal setting for individuals with substance use disorders (SUD).
This position provides patient care assistance in collaboration with the clinical, and /or medical staff within Broward health facilities. employees in this position may provide non-clinical casework to patients with SUD. While actual tasks may vary, depending upon area of assignment, work generally involves assisting professional, clinical, and nursing staff in the treatment and care of patients in accordance with the established methods and procedures of the addiction/substance abuse program and state regulations. Judgment and discretion are used is dealing with program participants. Work is performed with some independence in daily operations within approved policies and procedures and is evaluated through reports and observation od results.
- Current BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Requires possession of a valid Florida Drivers License.
- Requires Certified Recovery Peer Specialist (CPRS) certification, or be able to obtain within Twelve(12) months of hire.
