What are the responsibilities and job description for the BPN Orthotics Technician position at Bryan Health?
Develops/fabricates, modifies, and repairs a wide range of custom prosthetic-orthotic and other advanced technologies under the supervision of a Certified Pedorthist.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
2. Fabricates custom orthotic and prosthetic devices according to prescription specifications and under guidance of qualified staff. This may include, but not limited to, plaster modification and preparation of positive models, cutting, trimming and smoothing definitive products in preparation of fitting onto patients.
3. Fabricates, adjusts and repairs all custom prosthetic and orthotic appliances.
4. Receives verbal and written instructions from qualified staff regarding the production of custom orthotics.
5. Keeps notes regarding fabrication specifications, such as but not limited to, times and temperatures of thermoformed materials, amount and type of lamination, or any information specific to the specialized materials used in a production process.
6. Consults with higher-level staff in regards to types of materials and procedures needed for a desired outcome.
7. Complete work orders as assigned.
8. Maintains all equipment and tools in the lab.
9. Maintains a clean and safe work area; uses appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when necessary.
10. Maintains current knowledge of latest items, procedures and fabrication techniques as related to their scope of practice.
11. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of various orthotic and prosthetic fabrication techniques, such as using plaster, thermoplastics, thermosets, and leather.
2. Knowledge of appropriate use of specialized tools and the maintenance of those tools.
3. Knowledge of and practice in using modern personal protective equipment (PPE).
4. Knowledge and proficiency in hammers, scissors, and cutting tools.
5. Skill in verbal and written communication skills with patients and staff.
6. Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.
7. Ability to multi-task.
8. Ability to react effectively and perform work under stressful and emergent situations.
9. Ability to work standing for long periods of time.
10. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or equivalent required. Some experience fabricating orthotics/prosthetics using various techniques.
