Using the principles of Lean Manufacturing, the Fabricator I operates machines that stamp, grind, press, polish, cut or prep knives such as a Straightener, Time Saver Sander, Bador, Stamp Press, Nail Notch, Heat Treat - (load/unload belts), Tang Anneal, Water Wash Parts, Drilling, Threading, Hand Polishing/Blade Prep, and Tumble Polish. Will be responsible for inspecting parts for good quality, using measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers and visual observation. May assist in machine set-up and perform minor machine maintenance.

- Night Shift: Monday-Thursday, 4:30pm- 2:30am
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reads job specification process sheets to determine the procedure required at assigned work station(s).
- Sets stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, or template.
- Positions workpiece against stops or aligns parts in dedicated fixturing.
- Operates machinery.
- Observes machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunction.
- Changes surface preparation wheels and readjust machines when necessary.
- Measures workpiece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation.
- Performs minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or workpieces.
- Assists machine operators to set up machine, stack, mark, pack, and transport finished workpieces.
- Responsible for keeping work area clean and safe.
- Practice 5S in the workplace.
- Ability to handle items continuously throughout the shift.
- Comply with all standard safety practices, safety rules, and all Company rules and policies.
- Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
- All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Basic mathematical skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to identify quality defects.
- Excellent communication, ability to work well with others.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to do highly repetitive physical work, paying attention to detail.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as job specification process sheets, safety rules, bill of materials, visual work instructions, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Experience reading blue prints and using micrometers and calipers is preferred.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand during a 10-hour shift; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
