The Factory Store Retail Clerk is responsible for giving tours, obtaining and stocking merchandise, totaling bills, accepting payments and making change for customers in retail store, all while providing excellent customer service.

We make purpose driven knives that last for generations and our store employees sell them to enthusiastic customers.

The Retail Store Clerk is responsible for giving tours, obtaining and stocking merchandise, totaling bills, accepting payments and making change for customers in retail store, all while providing excellent customer service. Will also interact with customers in person, over the telephone or via email with regards to Buck’s Forever Warranty, including deciding whether to repair or replace a customer’s knife. Provides customers with knife status and answers questions from customers and dealers about Buck Knives.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following-

  • Supports the company objectives by providing the highest level of customer service.
  • Maintain inventory levels, reports when stock is low, keeps inventory levels current in POS system.
  • Set up displays or arrange merchandise to promote sales.
  • Stamp, mark or tag prices on merchandise.
  • Answer customer questions in a timely manner, in person or on the telephone, checking all messages and returning calls when needed.
  • Assist in resolving customer complaints in a timely manner, escalating to Store Supervisor as needed.
  • Thoroughly and efficiently gather customer information, access and fulfill customer needs, educate the customer when applicable and document transactions.
  • Provides the Shipping Department with customers’ packages to be sent out per the requested method (UPS, Parcel Post, Insured Mail etc.), including correspondence, repaired and replaced knives.
  • Obtains items from Shipping for Consumer Relations Department, such as engraved knives and invoices.
  • Maintains daily log of knives brought in and mailed in for repair.
  • Contacts dealer/representative regarding return items to discuss possibility of reshipment.
  • Conducts factory tours.
  • Operates cash register and processes cash, debit and credit card sale transactions.
  • Keep store clean and organized.
  • Administer weekly cycle count.
  • Check daily mail.
  • Perform backup front desk/receptionist duties as needed.
  • Ability to handle sharp knives and other items continuously throughout the shift.
  • Comply with all standard safety practices, safety rules, and all Company rules and policies.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position will not have any supervisory responsibilities.

  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.

  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication, ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to learn and retain information, such as product descriptions and factory tour scripts.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Basic math skills, such as addition and subtraction; ability to calculate sale prices based on discount percentage.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.

Education/Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to sharp objects (knives). The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually mild.
